"Ask me to contemplate why an actress losing weight is regarded as heroic.
Because for anyone - famous or not, rich or poor - to lose weight and maintain a new healthy lifestyle is a feat, Williams.
Anyone who has been a food addict, emotional eater, overeater, binger etc. - and is now at a healthy BMI - knows the hell of withdrawal, the pain of exercising while obese, the battle against cravings and all the myriad other challenges the road to fat loss and health presents.
Just because you clearly have no context or experience of your own in this regard does NOT fuckin' give you the right to belittle the personal victory of Bertinelli or the rest of us who have conquered many demons in an effort to combat overweightness and obesity.
Kiss our now toned, healthy arses.

You spent $435.00 on a phone ??
Hell, I bought a car - my ol' Corolla - for just 100 bucks more than that!
-----------
Firstly, if I even spent half that much on an item, I would not lend it to anyone so casually - much less a 50 y.o. who has a hard time grasping how to use new technology.
Secondly, it was clearly a mistake and not malice on your friend's part.
Thirdly: you, LW, can afford to spend nearly half a grand on a cell phone - so clearly you can afford to replace it by yourself, no?
(And maybe it's just me - but this time, perhaps you should not let your friend borrow your replacement phone...whatever its price?)
I may be a progressive, but I can admit that it is better for the Republican Party to start veering toward a sensible (if still not entirely agreeable) center, than to splinter into factions that give Coulter & Limbaugh tribal warlord powers.
So Meghan gives off a bit of an airhead vibe...who gives a fuck?
If she can be part of an effort to articulate a better direction for the GOP - one that can break free from ridiculous old mores on gay marriage, stem cell research etc. - then why should we libs throw a bitch fit over it?
A more centrist GOP is not a threat to us...and it is good for our society as a whole.
1.) Dollhouse? Gimme a break.
Does anyone else notice that certain "actresses" like Elisha Dushku are given chances to make it again and again and AGAIN - solely because of their looks - yet they bomb every single time?
When is Dushku gonna reach her Tara Reid critical-(m)ass level and be banished already? Sheesh.
News flash: I'm sure thre are pretty girls out there who ALSO can act. Give one of 'em a break already, and leave the talentless ones to live off of their Maxim cover earnings.

2.) Heather says that these shallow, egomaniacal millionaire men desire "quality blow jobs on a regular basis".
Ummm, not to stir the pot but ladies: ALL guys desire that, rich or poor, selfish or selfless, profound & egalitarian or shallow & sexist.
The cute, sensitive vegan bartender who shops at Whole Foods, loves Ani Di Franco & drives a Prius powered on good vibes?
Yeah - he also would like quality blowjobs on a regular basis.
The key thing is most men know what we want is probably not what we will get: more likely than not, we'll do our best to give pleasure, and in return receive no reciprocation (or bad attempts at best) maybe once a year at most on our birthday.
But, if you are an egomaniacal millionaire old enough to be your "partner's" daddy? Well, hello Fellatio City! =P
I never quite understand the posters who actively read a positive review of a movie they've been prepared to loathe since barely hearing the actors in it, or a shred of then premise...
...And who then proceed to get their indie-only panties & manties (yeah, I went there, GLAAD) in a horrendous bunch over it?
The only reason I can imagine you'd spew your negative opinions here is to let everyone know how soooo beneath you the actors, humor etc. is.
Oh, please. Time spent thumping your precious cinephile chest here is time you've lost mentally fellating Andrew O'Hehir for his glowing review of the latest "Bisexual Serbo-Croatian little people eating pudding - No Subtitles" foreign-indie flick.

Oh, as for this movie itself?
Looks good for a couple laughs, guilty pleasure or otherwise. Think I'll catch a matinee.
If you've got pro-wrestling skillz, Keef, you could earn a 6- or 7-figure salary on the WWE circuit.
You could be The Chronicler! And your finishing move?
Why, The Punch Line, of course!
(As for what The Punch Line would actually entail: I'm thinking flying elbow, Macho Man Randy Savage-style. Oooooh yeaaahhhh.)
;-) =)
Your last post was excellent, Hotspur. I especially liked your "black man" analogy.
I have heard several white feminist peers of mine defend crossing the street when a black male is headed their way by invoking the evening news. That is to say: because one young black male (in a city of 20,000 such individuals) was featured on the 10 o'clock news as having been arrested for assault, these white feminists feel the safest course of action is to cross onto the opposite sidewalk if an African-American heads their way.
*sigh* Remember when feminism used to be about deconstructing generalizations, not reinforcing them?
I often would respond to such statements by asking these women what if they did not know me - a brown-skinned young male; would they also cross the street? The response was usually uncomfortable stutter or stony silence.
My only question now is: if Barack Obama in a hoodie walked in their general direction, what would they do?
