The above article states...
In a subsequent interview with the Daily News, Palin said discussion of alternative views on the origins of life should be allowed in Alaska classrooms. "I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum," she said."It's OK to let kids know that there are theories out there. They gain information just by being in a discussion."
How exactly is that theocracy?
That seems like a perfectly reasonable argument on her part.
FDR called on the nation to have a day of prayer for American soldiers when the D-Day invasion was conducted.
Was FDR a theocrat too?
Can you provide the exact quote where she said God wanted us there...and do so in the context of the entire idea?
How exactly would McCain be bad?
Personally, my opposition to Barack Obama is based on his past history of taking overly Statist policies. His support for earmarks and his failure to take on the political machinery that he has encountered.
He acted in almost perfect accordance with the Chicago machine, and has voted over 94% of the time along party lines. His few "bipartisan" efforts were on bills that passed with almost without opposition, thus cannot be properly labeled daring efforts.
His positions vis-a-vis life are actually are more extreme than those held and expressed by Barbara Boxer, making them well outside the mainstream.
Specifics, not generalities need to decide this election.
Barack Obama is not an evil man, but many of us disagree with his his ideas.
Have you met and talked to a large number of fundamentalists? Sorry, but should a TV news program be your source of information when there are living, breathing examples that contradict this obviously jaundiced view.
1. Palin's own minister said that he never saw Palin speak in tongues.
2. Pipelines do not kill polar bears, Sarah Palin kills polar bears with her bare hands and eats them raw (snark)
3. Most of those who throw around the word "Fundamentlist" are practicing a bigotry far more transparent than anything the "Fundies" have ever done.
It may be time for some to admit that this woman scares those on the extreme left.
How about a cultural experiment...for those of you who like to use the word "Fundamentalist", how about visiting and observing them in their natural environment? How about actually talking to some of them without using condescending references and snarky jabs? How about engaging them in the arena of ideas rather than throwing barbs?
A publicly accessible comments page is your domain?
Is it a echo chamber that you desire?
Why let the truth get in the way of a good narrative?
The truth does not matter. Dr. Cole, who is well educated in Islamic Studies, has felt no need to do a little field work on those he deems "fundamentalists". It is so much easier to keep our bigotry and ignorance, than to actually engage our fellow citizens.
He reminds me of the Astronomer that is so wrapped up in the stars that he cannot interact with his fellow man.
She took on the established power system and defeated them. The existing machine might be expected to whine a bit after getting their heads handed to them by a former PTA President....sorry, but the fact that some claim she is something just does not make it so.
So, when faced with a few people who were too zealous for you, you have decided to dismiss them all?
While I do not doubt that many are a little too pushy, I have seen at least as much rabid determination on the part of secularists to disabuse people of their faith.
We can disagree, but the constant verbal bomb throwing by both sides does nothing to foster an adult conversation.
That is right...ignore the reason that the Democratic nominee went from 9 points up to between 4 and 10 points down.
That seems like a winning strategy. While I know that most here have Jonah Goldberg voodoo dolls at home, his comment today
Barack Obama, a famous fan of pickup basketball, must recognize his plight: It's two on one now. John McCain drafted Gov. Sarah Palin, the star point guard from the Wasilla Warriors, to double-team Obama. (McCain's team doesn't care if no one covers Joe Biden, who seems to spend most of his time yelling to the media, "I'm open! I'm open!" But when he gets the ball, all he does is talk about what a great player he is and dribble in place.)
..seems spot on. Obama has no wiggle room right now, and at the moment has lost his momentum.
Please avoid words like "all" in post like that one...at least one book "To Kill a Mockingbird", which appears on the list was written before Sarah Palin took office.
Many were not, but some were.
Then we deserve what we get.
My read is simple on this. The Far Left has become so obsessed with damaging the right, that they have lost sight of reality. In 2000, Al Gore should have run away with the election...if he wins Tennessee or Arkansas, he is president. He did not do his job in either state (one was his home state, and the other the incumbents state). He lost primarily because he lost focus in the waning hours and put anger at Bill Clinton over pragmatism, costing him any chance in Arkansas.
In 2004, the far left simply gave away the election. GWB was beyond beatable, but people allowed hatred to overcome good sense. Verbal bomb throwing, and a slash and burn campaign...coupled with the second straight BAD candidate for the Democrats spelled their doom.
In this election, the lack of serious vetting of the Democratic nominee, and a paper-thin resume has finally caught up with him...he is approaching the stage where a hail mary may be his only chance.
