I have two indoor cats. I adopted them from someone who had them declawed. (Another issue, I know, but like I said, I gave them a new home). These are 100% indoor cats and are too defenseless to go outside. So, is it fair that a neighbor's outdoor cat comes over to my windows, terrorizes my cats and sprays all around the outside of my house to mark his territory? This has been going on for years and on humid days my guests are greeted at the front door the nice smell of cat urine. This cat also uses my flower boxes as a litter box. And everyone gets to see cat tracks that it left in my newly poured cement driveway and sidewalk. So, like LW, this cat does get on my nerves. And I wonder what makes people think they can get a cat for the whole neighborhood. I've talked to the neighbors about it. Nothing. Turns out the husband is allergic to cats, so it has to stay outdoors. Have I thought of poisoning the cat? Yes. It's crossed my mind. But I would and could never do it. The bigger issue is, if you're going to have a pet, be a responsible pet owner. And sorry, but if you're going to be hearbroken if it doesn't show up one night after you've let it roam the neighborhood, then don't let it roam the neighborhood. I'm hoping nature takes it's course. This cat can't survive long. At some point it's going to meet an enemy--be it a racoon or a virus. Or worse, someone who's angry and wouldn't think twice about what LW is at least showing some guilt over.
it has all the edge of a "Cathy" cartoon.
It's from 2004. That's kind of odd, especially in light of the above comments. Is it fair for Salon to try to slip this by the readers without noting that it came from the archives? Did it ever run before? There may be a good reason to revisit it, but without a disclaimer or explanation I just feel like someone is being lazy.
I agree; other comics are republished. But my point is that they're usually accompanied by a disclaimer. "While on vacation, we're publishing reader' favorites," or something like that. My comment about being lazy isn't directed to Ms. Lay. I'm sure she wasn't trying to get away with something. It's directed to the editors of Salon. And I thought it was funny that someone was stating her style was improving, when in fact it's from two years ago.
Don't start posting every clip of this poor woman. It's sad and tragic. No matter what you thought of her.
Maybe I was too young at the time to get some of the "adult" jokes on Mary Tyler Moore, but something must have been registering. Now at 42 years old, seeing Valerie Harper immediately brings me back to the crush I had on her in grade school. Or at least the crush I had on her character. There was always an excitement about her that I was attracted too. I knew something was happening--I just didn't know what!
this is really awful. It's a sad day when those things are my top 5 things I need to know. The Spitzer callgirl is more like an US magazine exclusive. And Mariah Carey on SNL? I enjoy some of the lighter, "fluff" pieces on Salon, but this takes it to a new extreme. It's probably time for me to find a new, must-read site.
I live in an inner-ring suburb, 9 miles from my downtown job. Parking in the city isn't a problem for me, it's parking at home! My 1952 2-car garage fits two cars fine, but then there's no storage area left. (One of today's large SUVs would never fit.) I was thinking of getting a Smart to replace our second car and free up space in my garage for four bikes. We would still have my wife's larger car for family outings. But for my commute, two seats are fine. Just a reminder, there are a lot of reasons for choosing a car. The trick is weighing them all out. I couldn't see myself in a Fit--I've spent all of my twenties in a Honda Civic. Like a Mini, this is a small car with its own personality. And it's a car that will appeal to a range of household incomes and demographics for different reasons--not just those who are only looking for better MPG or an economy car price point. Maybe it's not always practical, but practical doesn't always weigh into car buying decisions--or I would be driving a minivan.
Don't be self-absorbed. I recently had someone apologize for something offensive he said to me 15 years ago. The problem was, I didn't remember the initial slight. When he asked "Do you remember what I said to you 15 years ago?" I replied "no," which was the truth. In fact, he was kind of pissed that I didn't remember him or the comment. I told him it didn't matter, and I forgave him for whatever he may have said. But then, he insisted on telling me what he said. Then he proceeded to tell everyone that he just apologized for this "awful" thing he said to me 15 years ago. And of course, he told everyone what he said. It was so stupid that is was almost comical. It was all about him. In the end, I thought the guy was a a-hole, but it had nothing to do with what he said 15 years ago.
I live in Ohio and I hope to see this ad running soon. .
I thought I read something about the fact that she wasn't allowed to have income from other sources as long as she was governor. Wasn't that put forth when they were talking about her talk show?
