The Emperor's new peace plan

Every time I read an article written by Gary Kamiya, I always regret it later. Why did I waste my time? He is always biased in favor of the Palestinians and against the Israelis. You could sum up this crappy article with this sentence. Annapolis is gonna fail because Gary predicts it will. I guess he has access to a crystal ball that actually works. The truth about the Mideast in my view is that peace will come but slowly. Why? because eventually the Palestinians in particular and the Arab world in general will stop seeing Israel's very existence as "a hard pill to swallow" or a "punishment" but simply as a neighbor.

An Obvious question

It is absolutely clear from your post that Obama could defeat McCain and have "coat-tails" because he would be able to confront McCain not just on Iraq but also the so called war on terror. So here is the obvious question. Why can't Clinton supporters see this? It is a real mystery to me.

The Fun and Excitement of Civilization wars...

I think that the evil genius of Dick Cheney was his ability to exploit these people that Glenn has brilliantly figured out. They were Cheney's "useful idiots". They served him well in increasing the power of the executive branch.

This commercial writes itself

"Hi. I'm Achmed the Terrorist. I was plotting to attack America when the Government listened in. I was outraged. Fortunately the liberal ACLU lawyer sued and got me 10 million dollars. Thank you liberal Democrat part ACLU Lawyer. I now have money to attack the infidels."

Voice over announcer,"If you are a terrorist that has been bugged by a Telecom company at the behest of the Federal Government, call the law offices of the Liberal Democrat ACLU lawyers. We can't promise the same results as Achmed's but we can promise we will work for you."

Glenn Greenwalds comment on Hiatt's editorial

I think you overlooked the obvious flaw in Fred's thinking. The flaw was that there were no "good guys" to aid and abet like we have in Somalia. A robust presence isn't always a bad idea. Invading Iraq was.

The fundamental problem of Tom Friedman's thinking

"the most important reason for the Iraq war: to try to collaborate with Iraqis to build progressive politics and rule of law in the heart of the Arab-Muslim world,"

This the fundamental problem of Iraq war hawks like that is this. As laudable a goal of spreading democracy is, why was it necessary to wage war to do it? Saddam was 65 years old and not in the best of health. We dealt with him before. Why couldn't we have simply negotiated a Saddam exit strategy? Why didn't Bush or Friedman consider this a doable alternative?

What annoys me the most about Mr. Greenwald

It isn't his anti-Israel stand. He is entitled to his opinions. What annoys me is his immediate assumption that if you support Israel you are a clone of Joe Lieberman. For what it is worth I opposed the war in Iraq in 2003. What always seems to escape people who hate the fact that Israel is defending itself, is that Israel didn't blockade Gaza until after the rockets started firing. Using Mr. Greenwald's assumption that Israel's previous occupation of Gaza justifies or somehow mitigates the missile attacks would lead one to believe then that Ghettos and Native American reservations can launch missiles at white American suburbs. That is nonsense. Once Hamas is out of the picture a true peace can happen. Unfortunately not before.

The Rich aren't kooky at all

Just take a look at history since FDR. With the exception of Jimmy Carter voting for the Democrat has meant increased wealth for everybody. The behavior would only not make sense if Dems on the average made the economy worse rather than better by the time they left office.

Cyberpunk Treachery part deux

There was this movie in the 80s about a computer named "Josh" who had the control over our nation's nukes. In the movie the computer goes rogue and tries to start a nuclear war. Just before it was about to the hero of the movie teaches the computer about futility. After running through every scenario about world war III the computer speaks the following "strange game. The only way to win is not to play." maybe that should apply to commodities as well as thermo-nuclear war.

Original article: Skip Gates, please sit down

Would I have done anything differently?

Here is my problem with this post. The only way I would NOT side with Dr. Gates is if I found out he behaved in a manner significantly different from me, a middle aged white guy. The "IV league effect" if you will, applies to people of all races. Think about it. You bust your ass getting your PhD. Then bust your ass and kiss-ass to become a tenured professor at one of the worlds most renowned institutions of higher learning. I know I would think I was "better" than most people. I know I would also have a sense of entightlement. Wouldn't you? If anything, this post makes Dr. Gates behavior MORE understandable. Not less.

A short History

More to the point of this post. Our diets in America were mostly "meat and potatoes" or some variation there of. It wasn't until the seventies when Dr. David Reuben, who became famous for the book "everything you always wanted to know about sex*" wrote another book called "The save your life diet" touting the benefits of high fiber foods. To blame the feminists for our fast food obsession totally ignores history.

Jealousy

Plain and simple. These people hate Clinton. They hate him for having peace and prosperity on his watch and being a Democrat at the same time. Now he got the release of two journalists without any concrete concessions or even official government connections and that is driving the Clinton haters crazy. Good. Let their heads explode. I'm enjoying the pyrotechnics.
