Afghanistan and Somalia are examples of countries with no governments - the war lords growing there don't face any law whatsoever. -- macgupta

Utter stupidity! These counties are controlled by the brutal occupying power called America. If America goes home and a few decades pass without interference, perhaps the anarchy you claim could gain a foothold, but it is not the reason for the problems seen now.

Where did you people go to school anyway? Jesus on a stick.

Totally up to you, but the blank check that Britain handed Poland allowed Poland to tell Germany that they would not sit down an negotiate. That blank check was a promise to back Poland in any way it got into --- an entangling alliance.

Sorry, LL but Britain should have minded its own business. Of course it was an empire then and empires rarely mind their own business. I just wish America had gone to school on the actions and results of Britain's experiences. We could have avoided a whole lot of bloodshed.

I must work now, see you later.

save myself the bother of doing the reading first. -- LondonLad

That is fine. There are a few here who understand that almost everything teacher taught you in school is false; or only partially true. A thinking man is a skeptical man by necessity.

When, precisely, did any of the previous Administration own up to any of their actions? -- Iokannan in the Well

I missed most of this little dust-up and only saw this last part. I take you to be saying that Congressman Rangel, who is Joint Committee on Taxation Vice Chair, should get a pass on tax evasion since others have done worse things?

Do you really want to say that? Do you really want your team to get a pass because that other team is so much worse in your mind?

This reminds me of the fellows who say that anything the Americans have done is nothing compared to the myth we spin about the evil, evil nazis. So, America gets a pass as being "much better" than the secular Satan.

I love how DC rulers can get off by just giving back the money they stole when they get caught. I think I'll take up bank robbery if I can get off by giving the money back if I am caught.

another war, they called it "good" and "necessary"

Justin Raimondo on the 70th anniversary of the day Britain and France declared war on Germany.

As almost everything your teacher taught you, the myth of WWII is a lie also. Read it and weep.

do we want to see Cheney, who backed these actions and still does, standing in the dock? -- Broder

Yes. The whole idea of the trial is that justice should be the outcome. The fact that most of us know that the American legal system is snarfed up beyond redemption is beside the point. If the rulers backed the horrible system that passes as a "justice system" then, by Horace, let them be judged by that very system.

I think everyone inside the beltway knows that trials are stacked and rigged in the favor of the prosecutors. So what; if it is good enough for poor trash like me -- it is good enough for a "great one" like ... well, whomever.

re: Wars of aggression

Thanks for the reminder about America's horrible record even before WWII. One could go back even further; the Indian Wars for example; or the war against poor Mexico that was just a land grab. Regardless of how far back you go in American History, you will find evil.

It is what it is.

Good article Glenn ...

... well put, and little to take exception with.

I would add that war is a force that gives meaning to people's lives as that famous little book pointed out. (link@sig)

As long as we are at war; our economy is warped out of shape and the poor suffer; our moral fiber is eroded and everyone suffers; and we create enemies that will make all of us suffer when they can do so. As a wag once said --- friends come and go; but enemies accumulate.

Is that antiwar enough for you, or do you want some more? -- ScuzzaMan

No, that was nicely done thank you.

=:-)

And this is news? -- ScuzzaMan

Not to me. If I was not on double secret probation I would have written a letter like yours on the front end of the thread.

Glad you did here.

The Pitts article is new to me also and I figure more will be revealed over time, and you may be correct that a potential whistle-blower was given the old "treatment". If that was it, or something else, we still see the same old government tactics even with the "angels" in charge.

On another note, the President will be speaking to all America's children in a televised address in a few days which will be shown in our schools. I sure hope that is not viewed as building a "personality cult" because we Americans know that only happens with the rethugs and never with others. I am hoping that the Rethugs will lose next election and the Democrats will take over government so that we may start seeing some good government.

Leonard Pitts Jr. says ...

Luster Is Off Obama’s ‘High Moral Ground’

I realize that it is impolite to mention any problems with the current administration while everyone is back-slapping and high-five-ing, but Pitts did win a Pulitzer in 2004 for commentary and he would never be mistaken for one of those white, southern conservatives that we are making fun of today.

He says that the Raymond Azar case is most disturbing. You can check out the case he builds for the end of "high moral ground" by clicking on my sig.
