Where have you been rbsalonlo?

This is not America. -- rbsalonlo

This is America and has always been so. You apparently have not read your history; and no, I do not mean that shit they spout in 8th grade social studies.

... teams of 25-30 officers in riot gear, with sub-machine guns drawn, entering homes of those suspected of planning protests, handcuffing and forcing them to lay on the floor, while law enforcement officers searched the homes, seizing computers, journals, and political pamphlets. Last night, members of the St. Paul police department and the Ramsey County sheriff's department handcuffed, photographed and detained dozens of people meeting at a public venue to plan a demonstration, ... (Glenn G.)

I have preached that the so-called justice system in America has been broken for decades. I have pointed out that the militarization of the local police around the country was an Imminent Threat to all citizens.

I have watched as Americans see their local police buy tanks and other military gear and they see no problem. (other than cost perhaps)

Glenn, I wager that at least 1/2 of all citizens would see nothing wrong with this "preventative policing action." I also wager (no poll to back it up) that a sizable portion of the judges in America also see nothing wrong.

What happened to make Americans so easy to manage? -- Ché Pasa

A nation of shopkeepers and sissies. Hell we even call men who drop 500 pound bombs on women and children, from so far up in the sky that they can not been seen, heroes. Yes, we call the practitioners of industrialized baby killing heroes.

Americans are the most well defended group in history, and yet are the most frightened in history. I imagine that women on their way to concentration camps in the 40s showed more heroism than an American could ever muster.

100 protesters taken to temporary center

or click on sig

The Denver Post story is what one would expect from an American local paper; but it does have a few facts.

conflicted

So, both journalists and lawyers -- in addition to protesters -- have been detained and arrested even though not a single violent or criminal act has occurred. (Glenn G.)

There has to be a joke about lawyers, journalists, and being conflicted in that sentence someplace; but I'll let The Daily Show handle it for now.

The story is not getting much play (yet) in the places that I would expect a little help. One would hope to see Raw Story have it on their site by now.

While Obama and McCain take the hardline AIPAC militarist line. -- jeannelaurita

Of the two major parties, the only candidate not to call for mass murder of Arab (or Persian) woman and children is the Republican chick from Alaska. Give her time, give her time.

McCain thinks some half-assed pick of a VP candidate that might be labeled "libertarian leaning" (whatever that means) will appease the Ron Paul supporters. What a laugh, they are not even welcome at the convention and (here comes the on-topic part) may well get their heads knocked about also.

Are you more or less convinced that Amy Goodman is the anthrax attacker? -- GlennGreenwald

Well, the only way to get to the "truth" of that, Glenn, would be to send her to Gitmo for a few years of torture. I bet we can get a long and horrifying confession out of her!

The people do not have a voice in this country, under this regime. -- Christopher Michael Neill

You got that right!

And wouldn't you say that the home-owners should have a right of "self-defence" against attack? -- Arne Langsetmo

Your "right of self-defense" against a military invasion (that is what it really is) of your home is possible and will go as well as a Palestinian with his little stone taking on the Israeli Genocide Force. (that is the name of their army is it not?)

In a home invasion by American Thugs (sometimes misnamed "police") the homeowner has no chance. He especially has no chance if he has women folk and children in the house to think of. The time to fight a swat team is when the city council is thinking of allowing the demon-impersonators to form on your local police force in the first place --- and, good luck with that in America.

over the top adnoto ...

... What if those kids were your kids?

How bad does it have to get before it isn't funny anymore? If I had been an outspoken Jew who was thrown on a train headed to out of town, Jebbie would have thought it was a good time to make a joke?

There is something wrong with you people. I am literally both shaking with rage and sick to my stomach. You disgust me.

-- adnoto

I thought the "joke" was disgusting when I read it, but you have gone over the top. After all, the fellow who made the joke is here mainly to make bad jokes and derail threads from serious topics. UT is just a 'chat room' to many here and you must get used to it. Hell, several use it just to hone their stand-up act. (did Lewis Black start here?)

You will also find that many on both sides of the political divide love to use the government to punish those they dislike or that they do not understand. I have seen Democrats calling out for government action against others for decades --- they just call out for action against different groups than the Republicans.

This is one reason the "freedom message" falls flat when Democrats use it; it does not ring true to the populace. Don't get me wrong, many Democrats are true friends of freedom and liberty. Too bad they are such a tiny minority inside the Democratic Party. (same as with the Rs)

comedy club

Heru-ur, you do realize that you punctuated your own tirade against people who tell jokes here by telling a joke here, right? .....! -- arrenfrank

That was no joke! :-)

There is one here who is trying to do Lewis Black --- I swear. I do wonder if some of the more edgy comedians try out new material here since it is well known that Glenn will allow almost anything in these comments. (even me)
