from bad to worse ...

That essay made me literally sick to my stomach, very much as did my reading about Obamabush's ordering the execution of some terrorist suspect, rather than his apprehension:

...

We get a president, supposedly liberal in the old meaning of the word, who taught constitutional law at one point in his life; and he does not know the difference in the word "suspect" and "convict".

Why do we have courts if an accusation by our government automatically means you are guilty? Is it just to give jobs to cowardly lawyers types who play the game? Can anyone play the game? What if I accuse Nancy Pelosi of being a top terrorist mastermind; will the CIA whack her?

I could have sworn Don McLean's song was called "Newton". -- LondonLad

=:-)

Keep in mind Lad, that if we had listened then, we would not need Newton now. :)

Sadly, that was probably the best way out for him. -- Bill Owen

Jesus, Joseph, and Mary. What have we become?

Did all this start with Nixon and his war on "crime in the streets"? Or, have we always been controlling busybodies who would rather destroy a man as see him live a free life?

I am reminded of the British philosopher Alan Watts and his book called The Book written back in the late 60s. He warned us, in effect, we were going absolutely mad and gave an answer as how to get sane. We did not listen then, and we are not listening now. (reference to Don McLean's "Vincent")

how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they're not
list'ning still
perhaps they never will.

one of the most moving blog posts I have ever read ...

Look at the pictures, ponder how you acted at that young age.

From Classically Liberal comes a devastating indictment of us all. He starts out with, "There is a fury and and sadness inside that I cannot express." I would add that I have worked with the young and I find it unspeakable that this happens in the "land of the free".

One of the paragraphs that is sooooo on target:

One can always kill flies with sledgehammers. It’s very effective. It will kill the fly. But in the process the damage that is done is far worse than the problem that it solves. To protect our kids we take sledgehammers to them and smash their lives.

Bill Owen

Thanks for the article on the captured diplomats. Hell they eat better than I do and I have not watched a DVD in a long time --- good or bad.

treatment of captives ...

Oh, by the way. When Iraq released US prisoners after the first Gulf War, to a man they reported they were treated well and in full accordance with the Geneva Conventions. Perhaps we should adopt the practices of our enemies because we sure as hell didn't treat our captured Iraqis as well as they treated captured Americans.

-- Jebbie

That would require Americans to be fully human; ain't a gonna happen. Americans feel like only they are due decent treatment and all others are not. There are many theories as to why this is so --- but it is so.

Conspiracy

Conspiracy can be a crime as it is an agreement between persons (two or more) to break the law at some point in the future.

There are conspiracies every day. It the case of the topic that has been raging here today, the government itself put forth a theory of a conspiracy led by a fellow named bin Laden. Others have claimed they do not believe the official report on the conspiracy.

We note that it must be a conspiracy since no one here is foolish enough to believe one man did the whole job by himself. At least I hope that is the case.

So, you believe the Bush Administration's conspiracy theory and I'll not believe it. Hell, the Bush Administration would use lies even if the truth would serve them better.

Back to your food fight ...
