Anyone else read "Blink"? There's a chapter about some sort of booze... I can't remember the details... but in taste tests, which booze was preferred was based almost entirely on which bottle was swankier looking.

Mickey D's should definitely serve carrots. Subway has started to sell sliced apples in little bags. Wendy's serves Mandarin oranges in kid's meals now.

  • ooh twisted

I know women who make all kinds of secret purchases. Crazy. Undignified. I can't figure out which is worse, the concealment or the husbands who feel the need to question how their wives spend money. My husband and I tell each other about even trivial purchases, mostly because we've had our credit card info stolen online before and want to keep track of things. (The first sign was a $5 charge, followed by a series of $40 charges, and it took us a while to notice.)

Why must these men be so coddled that they never learn what a pair of shoes costs? Isn't that, I dunno, childish and insane? These same men who say, "You already have a pair of shoes," would be the first to notice if their wives looked frumpy in a group of wives. They might not be savvy enough to notice the reason for the difference, but they would notice. As for retail therapy, mine runs more towards exciting new art equipment and less towards shoes, but if I want to spend money frivolously to cheer myself up I'll come right out and say so. And I expect my husband to feel free do the same. It's taken him years to learn that he doesn't have to pretend that every video game is a business expense... he can just buy a toy.

  • more than children

[Read the article: How can churches serve sex offenders?]

A local congregation has been struggling with this issue. Something that hasn't been mentioned here is that it's not just about protecting children - this church has had several adults who were molested as children come forward and say that they don't feel comfortable worshiping alongside this man. I'm not sure what I think of that. It seems fairly clear to me that it's not possible to be a Christian and refuse to welcome someone because he's a sinner - in fact Paul addresses this in so many words - but I also sympathize with those who feel they're entitled to feel safe in a house of worship.

My husband's best friend for years was a gay woman. She was very butch and certainly not interested in him sexually; nor was he interested in her sexually. I know it's hard to believe after reading Broadsheet's comments section for a few months, but some men have brains as well as penises.

  • anecdotal I know

But I have very long index fingers (ultra female) and aced the spacial parts of the brain sex test that was posted a while ago. So whatever the correlation, it's far from 100%.

Thanks for the link to the article on Tourette's. I have a close friend with Tourette's who is also the smartest man I've ever met. I wonder if the two are connected.
