Original article: Oprah's revenge

oh, Oprah get over yourself

Poor Oprah! she was DUPED.

she's fallible like everyone else.

is she mad at Frey for lying, or is she mad at the fact she had to eat her own words on national tv? she backed him on Larry King out of pure arrogance.

image is everything in media. are we supposed to believe that this is the first time someone has lied or misrepresented themselves on Oprah? COME ON.

and let's keep this in perspective: Oprah's just a person. i can live with that-- why can't she?

grow some cajones pops!

Cary's right. IDL is the one who's going to have to change. but he's not right about what. she's going to have to learn that she can't please MIL just like she couldn't please her own parents, through no fault of her own. she's also going to have to learn to say "no". she's also going to have to learn to stick up for herself. she's going to have to learn to communicate with her "perfect" husband. most of all, she's going to have to learn to really love herself, because that's where a lot of these problems root from to begin with.

oh, and i'd be goddamned if i'd let ANYONE withhold my child from me when i ask for it.

they were tricked, TRICKED i say, into disrobing!

these poor victims! they just got exploited by those evil, evil men. they didn't want to create a buzz about their movies in the theaters! they just WANT TO ACT. they don't care if this kind of publicity ups their already exorbitant paychecks, NO! they just want to be appreciated for their CRAFT, not their bodies! but those EVIL men had other plans for them, which they had no power to fight. those poor helpless, opressed, naked victims... will they ever be free??

Original article: Duke exposed

daddy pays resident's salary. puke away, son!

the letter by Duke '06 Undergrad tells a lot about dook students in general. the undergrad is so full of himself and dook that he thinks a guy getting his house puked and pissed on should be thankful for the job the dookies so gratefully provided him. suppose if daddy's house up in new jersey was getting pissed and puked on by blacks from out of town? i guess he'd think "well, i guess they provide us with service jobs, so i'll let him trespass and piss on my house". right?

durham should thank the yard-pukers

"pick" a house near campus? this and his other statements like it clearly show the class divide involved here. to the duke student, poppa moneybags can just "pick" a house at any location. for some poorer residents, it's not that easy. but that point is of course lost on the privileged who have no real worldview outside of duke and it's walls. to them, durham should be thankful for duke's mighty yard-pissing and -puking presence.

superhuman indians, oh my!

i'm white, and it is unclear to me how this girl's experience is different from my own, or different from many other white american families i know. i was pushed, hard, to academically succeed. great things were expected of me. my grades and accomplishments were quantified to compare with my other family members', as well as the neighbor's children, and theirs to mine. i also learned to spell, despite not being indian.

so what was the purpose of this write-up?? if roy wanted to compare an indian-american's experience with a white american's experience, then he has failed. if there was some hip irony or "edginess" to his article that i'm missing, he's failed. this is simply a poorly written commentary with nothing of substance to glean from it, and that's irrespective of the fact the author is indian.

hope i spelled all that right; not being from the indian sub-continent has left me without a photographic memory.

sheesh.

A word from the President of the Institute for Better High School Wrestling Coach Relations (IBHSWCR)

Salon readers, et al.:

I would like to take a moment to address the issue here of high school wrestling coaches. I would just like to say that we are people too, and we hurt. We're not nancy-boys like Keillor and MOST San Franciscans, but listen, everyone. We cry. We feel. We DO know how to grab an opponent by the short and curlies for the win, but we're not gay or anything. We are more than coaches. We are LIFE-coaches. We are teachers. We teach the children to body slam one another, and, afterwards, shower together effusively. It builds character, muscle, and heterosexual attitudes, all of which or boys will need if we are to defeat Al Qaeda. Try that one, nancy-boy Keillor!

Thank you,

Coach Dirk Mitchrock

President, IBHSWCR

Original article: The North goes south

my Southern God, this man is boring

i was born and raised in the south, and GK's article doesn't offend me. i even thought it was kinda funny in parts. i agree with an earlier poster who said that he was making fun of southern stereotypes in a "no-wonder-they're-so-crazy-with-this-heat" kinda way. but i didn't think it was too funny, though - i mean, how hard would it be to write a piece characterizing a hick goober? his article is as bland as he and his fellow midwesterners are - kidding!

i'm here in NC-13

a couple of corrections to an earlier poster:

vern raised %98 of his money for this election from out of state, not locally. and, no, even HERE he is NOT considered liberal. most people in NC-13 see him for what he is: a horrifying hate-monger. and %2 funds raised locally indicates this clearly.

something's gotta change first

as long as the republicans are perpetually allowed to frame this (and any other) debate the way they wish, the comment will only serve to harm the democrats. it doesn't matter if kerry's grown a backbone or not....
