  • The Public Craving for Scandal

[Read the article: "I only dread one day at a time!"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I have read a number of reviews where the reviewer almost seems to want to villainize Schultz. Maybe its because we like contrasts - the contrast between the philosophical juveniles in his strip and his actual life. Maybe because we like to raise up people and knock them down again.

I think Schultz is a hero to manage to put out a popular body of work, despite what appears to be a crushing depression and insecurity. I also do not think it has anything to do with his parents beyond genetics and his life beyond his having a roving eye and more than one marriage.

I know people who suffer that kind of depression, insecurity and anxiety, and they let it cripple them. Schultz did not. He managed to do what he wanted to do, do it well, make a bundle on it, have some kind of social life (rather than withdraw) and do business. In my mind, the guy, for whatever flaws the masses want to find in him, is a hero.

  • Advertising

[Read the article: Selling (out) girls' self-esteem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So, you're surprised that a corporation is going to tailor its advertising message to the market that is going to buy the product?

  • Wait What?

[Read the article: Will my family drag us down?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The sister has a husband who travels a lot. She has kids. Why isn't her damned husband taking care of her? Its not Doctor Lucky's job to do that. The husband should be seriously looking at his occupation and make the necessary changes so he can be a husband and not a wandering source of income.

As for mom - the good doctor has to ask himself if he wants to immerse himself in that hell again. No one in his family has time to be a full time carer. I know people who are not in demanding professions who have had to stop working to do that. If he is a doctor, he can afford to front some services to help mom out. However, I doubt she is so decrepit that she is incapable of taking care of herself. She has a responsibility, too.

Doctor Lucky's first job is to take care of his kid, his second job is his marriage, his third job is teaching, and whatever time he has free is for the other stuff.

    Here is a molehill -> .

Not quite a mountain. And yet...

  • Sexism or Stupidity?

[Read the article: Taking off your bra for national security]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think the latter. I do have a friend overseas who will never return to the US again because of the security measures at airports. I have pretty much stopped flying for pleasure and take my vacations at home.

Given that the goons running the security agencies want to use machines that look right through our clothing and record it onscreen, a zesty nationwide boycott of air travel is long overdue and probably good for the environment.

  • Actually

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I really would like to hear about farting in airplanes. It isn't gross. Its funny. My own theory is that the FAs are serving carbonated beverages to a trapped crowd and when you take in lots of fizzy drinks, it has to go somewhere.

I also like the observation about the dove's wingspan and how big our wings would have to be. That's pretty cool.

  • Breathtaking

[Read the article: Our office manager is a dental despot!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Asking employees to front an expense that should be borne by the business is so wrong. I agree with Cary. Look for another job.

  • Start Small

[Read the article: Go ask Alice]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Some of the letters seem to indicate an all or nothing attitude o n the part of the readers. If you can take her suggestions, write them into a simple numbered list and do 20% of them, you are taking a step in the right direction. The two things I do are to buy things that are local and buy things that are in season. If I do the first one, I am doing the second one automatically. I don't feel like I have a right to apples in February. There are other things I can eat. A few other things fall into place, such as not getting as many pre-processed meals. My trash can is never full anymore and food tastes better.

  • Its about time

[Read the article: No promotion for FEMA faker]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am so tired of these charlatans getting away with this silly shit. It seems everywhere I go, the little guy gets screwed for doing the right thing, like being a whistleblower, fighting for employee rights or just telling the truth, while the cronies and Suits trample on our lives and liberties, snatching one plum assignment after another.

I'd love to see the rest of those clowns on my list in the UI line.

  • Mmmmm Moist

[Read the article: Linguists: "Moist" makes women cringe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am a woman. I also love plants. When you try to keep ferns alive, "moist" has very positive connotations.

If other women have trouble with that word, I recommend they get a delicate and beautiful tropical plant. It changes everything. Really.

  • This tells me one thing

[Read the article: May we congratulate you on your divorce]

    People are nuts.

  • Here's An Idea

[Read the article: Band on the run in New Orleans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The police can take the complaint about the *daytime* commotion, get the name and address of the person complaining, send ONE unit to that house, take a report, thank them for their time, and then go deal with real crimes. They do that where I live.

Better yet, an ambitious young lawyer or politician can rally the people to get a ballot measure up to exclude funeral processions from permit fees. Its not like they're making money or causing a ruckus.

But, no, that's too sensible. Its the end times for NOLA culture and that's a damned shame.

  • People want it cheap

    [Read the article: Invisible guilt]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We're shouting into a wind tunnel. Go to the heartland and people will say they want "value". Its other people's children, after all. I read the labels and it is to weep. Only American Apparel seems to make clothing here and they just got bought out by some money farm corporation. So, but your AA stuff now and stash it away before they use slave labor like the rest of them.
