  • I don't understand

[Read the article: The minimum wage went up, so the owner cut my hours!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There are quite a few people suggesting that this letter is a fake because it the precise argument against a raise in the minimum wage from those evil folks on the right.

Isn't it possible, just a little possible, that even though a hike in the minimum wage is a good thing for our economy and for our society (and I believe it is) that somewhere in the U.S., maybe even in San Francisco, there might be a business-owner that decides to cut hours? Not because the owner is trying to score a political point against all liberals but simply because he/she would rather be short-staffed than pay more in personnel costs?

Do we really think that a minimum wage increase is not only good, but also absolutely good?

  • Black, but not "black"

[Read the article: Black vs. "black"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am black. I grew up in this country, to loving parents (who look like me) and a good home. I have friends of all races and a good job and education. I've also have been singled out, a couple of times, for suspicion-tinged treatment by white people.

You're right Gary; despite what a few posters before me would have you believe, some people are black and not also "black".

  • Wonderful!

[Read the article: Hillary vs. Obama: It's a drawl!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is exactly why I subscribe. Thank you for hiring intelligent columnists that aren't afraid to critique popular liberal opinions.

This seems like a no-brainer but I'll write it anyway:

Liberal politicians and liberal positions are not absolutely good and correct. Conservative politicians and conservative positions are not absolutely bad and flawed.

Sign me up for another year!

  • Careful distinction

[Read the article: What is the rationale behind the prescription drug laws?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I rarely comment on a Salon article that I agree with, but I'd like to do so in this case in order to make this point:

Glenn is suggesting that competent adults should have the ability to take "controlled" drugs outside of a doctor's recommendation. This is not the same as suggesting that competent adults should decide what drugs to take without speaking to a doctor. I think everyone can happily agree that the latter is a bad idea.

For the record, I agree with an earlier post that this is more likely due to the political history of pharmaceuticals and health care rather than some carefully reasoned and well-supported rationale.

  • Interesting list comments

[Read the article: Yes, Sanjaya made the list]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was surprised to see how many men were on the list for no other reason than being "chubby". I thought men, especially older men, got a pass on the whole weight issue. Guess not.

  • Just for the record...

[Read the article: "Sopranos" wrap-up: Hide-and-seek]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The father and two kids were not killed in the train store when Bobby got hit. The last scene there showed the assassins walking by them huddling on the floor.

  • If you've read this far, LW...

[Read the article: My Southern grandmother is dying, and I don't want to go back]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm going to agree with crainy and watneyjinx. It's okay to not go. It's okay to not call. It's okay to not care. Our connections to our biological family is not what gives us our humanity. Sometimes we don't fit and we seek our connections elsewhere. And it doesn't have to stem from some horrific, tragic abuse. Sometimes you just plain don't like any of them and they really don't like you. That's okay. You can turn your back on that without anger or pain or vengence. You can just be... done.

  • What the hell?

    [Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This wasn't even in the Washington Post. Not being in the South Alabama Podunk Express-News I could understand, but the frickin' POST?!

  • I'm Asking the Pilot about my confusion

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"This is the reason, by the way, for the litany of prohibitions during taxi, takeoff and landing: [...] laptops and iPods put away. It's not about electronic interference..."

It was my understanding that electronic intereference was an actual possibility and slight danger and, further, that you've acknowledged as much before... am I going crazy?

  • Not just for the unconscious

[Read the article: Mice studies show RFID tags cause cancer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

How many people accurately and completely remember their medical history? The meds you took 6 years ago, your baseline hormone levels, the tens of minor issues that might add up into a cause for concern... none of that is going to make it on to that clipboard. That isn't too say that everyone should go get chipped, but the lack of good information from medical history kills far too many people in this, and most, countries.

  • Obscenity?

[Read the article: Fox muzzles Sally Field]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I thought the reason they cut it was because "God damned" is an "obscenity" by FCC standards. Ms. Field seemed to confirm that when she told reporters, "I think I probably shouldn't have said the 'god' in front of the 'damned.'"
