It is disappointing to read the extent to which Democrats abetted the administration in its crimes. On the other hand, the rampant hypocrisy of the current Democratic Congress has been obvious during the past year.
The DCCC and members of Congress assert that all they need is a bigger majority so they can stand up to the Republican minority. However, with few exceptions they have been doing nothing more than paying lip service to what the weekly polls tell them we want to hear; they haven't been trying and don't even seem to have a worthwhile agenda.
I'm betting there are still a lot of Joe Lieberman's in the closet. At least Lieberman was honest enough to stick by his convictions; honesty and forthrightnes are worth a lot in my book these days.
I feel like I'm in a time warp. I was more impressed with Hillary than Bill in 1992 and I would have voted for her then. But she wasn't running and I didn't vote for him until after the thugs had highjacked the republican party in 1994 when I started voting a straight ticket. Hillary may be the nominal candidate, but it is a package deal at best and I don't intend to vote for Bill again. We need new blood in the party and I'm sticking with Obama to the end. After that, it depends. (The gop needs new blood and new ideas, too.)
This is a sleazy insinuation, grieve, worthy of ken starr, et al. If there's a reason for it, give me the confirmed facts and credible sources; otherwise, include a disclaimer. You might want to check Media Matters if you have any interest in anything but a smear campaign.
I'm a huge Obama fan and I would be thrilled if Bill continued in the way he's been campaigning since Iowa. It would assure Obama's selection as the Democratic party nominee.
For those who believe that Florida is a referendum on how people 65+ would vote in a primary or general election, keep in mind that FL is heavily weighted in the NY codger department. I'm a codger in another state and I support Obama. I was inspired by and voted for JFK, which was the first election I was old enough to vote in.
I'm very disappointed that Salon published this piece about Obama and Rezko. First of all, there's not a newspaper or blog that hasn't mentioned it before you did which makes the story _very old_ "news"; further, it contains no new information to enlighten us and in fact omits some of the information that clarifies the housing transaction. In my book, this makes McClelland's motives for writing it and your motives for publishing it highly suspect.
The following sentence excerpted from the article is unprofessional and suitable only for tabloid rags: **It could be that Rezko was saving his chits until the senator achieved the one office unattainable to a machine pol.** I'll read Salon with a more critical eye in the future and will probably tend to discount the verity of the opinions and stories I find here.
The media keep harping on race because they are completely flummoxed by a man of "mixed heritage" who doesn't seem to realize he should be preoccupied with it. The media should get over it and consider him as a man who transcended the issue a long time ago.
I am an Obama supporter and I have thought a great deal about what is coming and I imagine Obama has too. I am _hoping_ that:
1. The majority of the American electorate sees though and is fed up with right wing extremism and hate mongering.
2. The entire Democratic party will rally around with responses and retorts that destroy the swiftboaters. The right wing of the gop is not composed of rocket scientists. In fact, they're downright simple (and small) minded and it's pretty easy to predict their lines of attack. Be Prepared!
3. The party and the candidate have already prepared attack ads on McCain's record and policies. He certainly has plenty of actual negatives to highlight.
4. Obama's innate dignity and manner will make the bigots and other lowlifes look as evil as they are. Unlike some I firmly believe that BHO can and will attack when it is needed.
Choosing the Clintons would not be any better. The hate mongers wouldn't use the uniquely Obama tactics, but they would still attack with lies, distortions and innuendos. Both of the Clintons' are well known and provide plenty of fodder...Hillary's "35 years of experience" would be a detriment, not an asset in this case.
My sense is that no one's listening to this rot, but perhaps that's just the company I keep. Does anyone know how effective the fear-mongering has been? I'm talking about effectiveness beyond the diehard gop wingnuts.
This is the kind of thing the gop will circulate for sure and perhaps the Clintons did Obama a favor to get it out of the way now. (Notice the vehicle they used to publish the photo: a right wing gossip monger) However, to be swiftboated by the opposition party in one thing and to have it come from within the same party is another. It's very destructive to the party itself. It's hard to see how the Democrats can come out of this primary unified, or at the very least without a disgustingly bad aftertaste.
The Clintons did not do themselves any favors. The only question about them now is how much farther will they stoop? I hope this means that when everything is finished they will take their toys and go home leaving the party to rebuild and restore itself. I'm off now to give another $50 to Obama.
If you've been reading the NYTimes and Washington Post the last two days, you would understand why Hillary is staying in. She thinks she will get the uber votes and it seems she likely will, as well as the FL and MI votes.
