Yea, it looks like Barack isn't going to turn out to be the Messianic figure some people were hoping for. Those "truebelievers" didn't believe him when he spoke of his weaknesses and blind-spots; I think they really thought those kinds of comments were just the Messiah's way of seeming humble. Well, looks like he was actually telling the truth.
The good thing is that I don't think most American's are looking for a perfect person, so I figure there is time even for the most entranced Obama followers to enjoy a race between three folks who have glaring blind-spots, but each of whom also has some things to brag about.
Reading your post, I started to wonder what the percentage of Obama supporters is that think he can do no wrong. I work with quite a few people going for Obama, but I can assure you that they see him as a lot like Hillary and McCain in terms of being a real, yet limited, person.
I might not be reading enough comments around here, but it seems is average supporter is not really speaking of him like a God. Of course the "idiots" on both side actually do believe that sort of hype.
But the fights are better when they are with the extremists!
"I have ever since I've been a little {child}felt the presence of God in my life. And it has been a gift of grace that has for me been incredibly sustaining. But, really, ever since I was a child, I have felt the enveloping support and love of God. And I have had the experiences on many, many occasions where I felt like the holy spirit was there with me as I made a journey."
I had no idea this was true.
I'm not an obomamaniac, but I'll bet you 300$ that Obama is not sunk. I don't think your reading this whole fiasco appropriately.
seriously, I wonder about Hillary being in charge of the miltary and it has nothing to do with her knowledge. In fact, I think she definitely has the knowledge base to run it. But we all know that any American president is under an extremely distorted amount of pressue to "prove" he or she is tough and won't take any crap from pesky nations. I think this automatically puts us in danger, regardless of who is in charge (which means that I can easily imagine Barack or anybody getting caught up in this "game"). We also know how easily a few misteps can lead to disaster. The grand narrative is that the worst missteps you can make are to delay the use of force or show any signs of weakness. There probably is some truth to that, but that truth is wrapped up in so much bullshit that it's probably more intelligent to just start from the other side of the coin. I think it is better to error on the side of deliberation. I know, I know, if we hadn't gotten to the Taliban so quickly.....they.....would have had to wait and....all that.
I think Hilliary has a lot to prove, both because of her natural personality and because she is a woman (it's not fair that any president is considered weak if he or she wishes to deliberate and take their time on this type of issue, but it's even worse that just by being a woman you actions are even more likely to be viewed as weak). In the context of Iran (or any other tricky situation), I'm afraid she would be responding to an even larger amount of that distorted pressure to "not back down". Plus, and this could be way wrong, but I get the impression that Barack isn't quite so caught up in the conventional American hoopla about the role of the miltary (i think we are just talking in degrees, so I really wouldn't have the energy to prove any of this)
It's not science and I can't prove that. And I can't prove that Barack would not make mistakes. Obviously, if you are of the opinion that Barack is naive and kind of dumb then you will be massively concerned about him being in charge of things.
But I say all of this because I do agree with you, mattwa33186, that Hillary's statements about Iran are worth considering. Maybe they only prove she is smart and strong. Maybe they point to an exaggerated need to posture in the way we tend to do. If she was a black preacher who Obama associated with, I bet we'd at least be mentioning them in passing. Please, if you are reading this and you "know" that Hillary or Barack or McCain is the only way to go and you "know" that any other consideration proves how stuipid the other people are...I won't know how to converse with you. I admit right now that anybody is right who knows the truth. I just don't know how to get at it that way, so I talk with people who aren't all that certain. It's probably a weak liberal aspect of my personality.
Yea, exactly; if this doesn't sink Obama maybe he's not quite so awful.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
