HealThisNation, I don't know how I got so off track!
I think what happened was that i was thinking about how awful Barack Supporter's are for supporting a guy who has weaknesses that don't recieve enough scrutiny and this got me wondering how negatively affected Hillary might be for never having associated herself with that preacher (he is ANGRY)and then instead of talking about the speech in which the ANGRY preacher suggested that the Creator of Love would be upset by America's history, I began to think about how Hillary is very smart and capable and how she might not lose to McCain.
Seriously: I really have no clue how I got off track. I think it has something do with what happens when Joan's blog goes past the 642 mark!
It's simple:
before you go to sleep tonight, sit comfortably in a chair for 15 minutes and just imagine Barack doing really stupid and naive things in office; imagine him getting caught drinking ink from a White House pen. Imagine him constantly asking White House workers where they keep the "Big Bomb". Imagine him prank calling world leaders and then sticking his nose in the air whenever disabled people approach him. Just make up a stream of images that would concern or dissapoint you if they were true. And then kind of believe they might be true. After that spend about 5 minutes imagining Hillary as President and just see her being smart and capable and very human.
You can go back just about 6 months and read all the experts saying that Hillary was definitely going to win. It was just a given that Barack could not get enough support. Why didn't we listen to the experts. Many of them are now saying that he might lose to McCain!!!
But there is one problem with your logic; I don't think we should trust people who have already voted for Barack to be capable of accurately assessing how they feel now. I think we should take former votes for Barack as proof that those people are either evil, stupid or robots.
I think we have a responsibility for future potential black candidates to make people see that Barack is an illusion, a dangerous phantom capable of making people believe that you can be an effective president without having lived in the White House for years or having been a republican senator for decades. Too many people believe Barack is reasonably smart and definately qualified to have the job that Bush has. I'm not sure what we need to do to teach them that we could have a future black President if Barack would step back like a gentleman...
If this whole Wright issue must be addressed within the frame of, "What does Barack need to do in order to mitigate this", I honestly don't believe there is much he can do. He can craft reasonable responses and distance himself in the way he has been, but I predict that none of your analysts will agree on a move he could make that would be great and really help him step out from under a media that insists upon this frame.
It would be like asking what Hillary would need to do to mitigate her claiming bullets were fired at her and then saying she had forgotten that she was not fired at...fortunately, her statements are not considered all that bad and she doesn't face that frame. But if she did, there would be nothing to make it go away.
I'm not saying it won't be interesting to hear expert opinions on how Barack might help himself, but I'd rather try to understand if this issue really warrants our scrutiny. If this is going to be a Roveian wet dream, I'd rather address why he gets to frame it rather than accept his rules of engagement.
Do you think Barack could win the election? Or do you think his chances are so slim that it is really beside the point?
