The one by Ethos Bared
[Read the article: Thank you, Rush Limbaugh!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Joan,
Look at my last post and then look at the one by Ethos Bared right before or after it. I KNOW that you could respond to Ethos or that you could at least use his/her comments as some type of proof of what an Obamamaniac is like. But I wrote my request to you just so that you would no longer even care about the fact that a really socially progressive liberal like Ethos "knows" that you are an asshole and that he needs to say "fuck you" to you. Ethos is probably the exact type of person that our country needs in charge right now, but I don't think we are ready for somebody who is so incredible and knowledgeable. Ethos probably is already aware of what an asshole I am, just by reading these few sentences!!!!
Anyway, Joan, I couldn't be happier that Ethos wrote right next to me. You have a choice!!!!! Me or Ethos. Who do you want to sit on the porch and talk about the future with????? Oh God, where are you going, Joan. Joan???? Just kidding. I'm sorry people who are so socially concerned call you bad names, but I also don't imagine there is that much to say to people on that high level of discourse. Just talk to those of us who think you must be a decent person who has obviously has the capacity to enter into a more subtle look at what's going on these days.....
I don't spell that well. And my hands ache. Sorry, Ethos. That's more proof of my assholian nature, isn't it?

@Sally (we don't know if Glenn ever...)
[Read the article: Megan McArdle and Dan Drezner's defense of the media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Before we wonder why Sally is assuming that Glen is trying trick us with those number, shouldn't we ask ourselves if Glenn has been secretly sending Sally mean spirited private emails?
Think about it: Maybe in the past Glenn used to make fun of Sally and we simply know nothing about it. That might explain why Sally is speaking like she is.
And we don't know if Glenn didn't one day write an email full of lies to Sally, promising her all kinds of money and fame, only to never follow through on his promise.
There is just so much we don't know. What we do know is that Sally must have good, solid reasons to call him a lier. We know she would not just be upset for other reasons. We know she is being nice, considering all we don't know about what Glenn may have once said to her.
I'm just asking that before we get mean spirited and stupid towards Sally, we remember all the bad things that Glenn may have lied to her about once. That's all!!!!

@Kitt (warning)
[Read the article: Megan McArdle and Dan Drezner's defense of the media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Kitt,
It very well could be like what you suggest. You might be right about the mean things Glenn may have done to Sally when they were kids. I want to caution you, however, because we simply don't know if Glenn hasn't told awful lies to Sally in the past. I applaud the specificity of your post. You clearly understand how important it is that we never forget the awful things we don't know about Glenn.
It's kind of frustrating going back through his blogs, isn't it? He hides all the awful things about himself so skillfully and we are left with the impression that we don't have reason to consider him a repugnant lier.
Sally has taken a very specific stance against Glenn and we need to respect her when calls him a lier. Onward!!!

Just begging
[Read the article: My last word (for now) on sexism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dear Joan,
I really really understand why you want to respond to those who say thing like,
"Joan, sexism doesn't exist"
or who call you names. I get it.
I beg you to respond to those of us who you really respect (not saying I'm one) but who disagree with you. Are you only going to converse with silly stupidity all the time? Don't you think that there are real conversations to be had based on some of the questions and comments that Salon readers have posed?

@Joan
[Read the article: My last word (for now) on sexism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is there anyway you could force yourself ignore comments like that from Virgo and, instead, choose to respond to reasonable concerns/comments? My gut tells me you might be leaning towards the repugnant and ignorant conversations, but I'll be you are about to see some very thoughtful responses. You mention your surprise at how many people at Salon support or minimize sexism. Please help counter this by digging in with those of us who are wanting to go futher into the assumptions related to this issue!

@Joan (the range)
[Read the article: My last word (for now) on sexism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I mean, there are going to be those who think exactly like you on this topic and there will be those who "know" that your opinion proves you are a bad person (it is often awful and occasstionally almost funny to see how people treat you because of your opinion)...
but aren't you at all interested in that other rather large group who understand what you are pointing to here, but who disagree or have other ways of seeing it? Don't worry, I'm almost done writing for the day, but it's kinda fun being at the front of your post and seeing how it unfolds right at the beginning...
