  • Beautifully said

This article was wonderfully written. Really, anything that could be said against it was already responded to within the article. The idea that people must automatically vote for someone because they share their gender, race, religion or anything else is wretched and antiquated. If you want to vote for someone on that basis, that is your choice. But it is an insult to both feminism and our democracy to say that as a woman, you must vote for Hilary, even if you disagree with her positions and find that other candidates better represent you. As Kate so eloquently pointed out, the very essence of feminism is the right of women to make their own decisions and express their opinions.

So thank you Kate, for serving as an excellent example of the cause you have championed.

I would also point out that the first commenter, in attempting to use shame ("You're a disappointment") to punish this woman for holding an opinion that may be contrary to the norm, is doing exactly the thing that we, as feminists, have been fighting against for years.

This is awesome. A great example of how simple satirical humor can be far more effective than massive, self-indulgent essays written by blogger blowhards.

And to whoever wrote that "Attention Pundits!" article (I think it was Traister), I hate to break it to you, but you ARE pundits.

    Cheers.

  • Fair and Balanced?

Hey Salon, when will you be posting your lengthy analysis of everything Hillary's pastor has ever said? About the same time you publish your article titled "Back off, Hillary girls! How Everyone Who Supports Hillary Is A Secret Racist" ?

So why is Salon publishing this story? Yes it is disturbing, so why do you have to reprint this photo and tell us all about it? Isn't Glenn Greenwald always writing about how lame it is that the mainstream media focuses on bullshit trivial issues, then justifies it by saying "people are interested in it?"

Surely there has to be some better subject you can call attention to this this ridiculously easy moral outrage target. Aren't you basically pulling a "To Catch A Predator" here, encouraging us to revel in our supposed superiority as human beings as we point the finger at the personification of Evil? Sure he's done some horrible shit and should be locked up but the guy is obviously sick and needs treatment. Hating him isn't helping anyone.

Well done. Fight back against gender stereotypes. Of course plenty of women like porn, we're all human. And thank god no one's buying into that "But don't they need more cuddling?" crap, some people really do just enjoy watching sex, male and female. Down with gender stereotypes and the bashing of either gender, subtle or overt.

  • Suggestion: Listen to music before writing review

[Read the article: Ripping Nine Inch Nails]

Did James actually listen to the album? Corona Radiata is not the last track (there are two more after it), nor does it sound anything like a 'slasher movie' soundtrack (unless slasher movies are now scored with complexly arranged layers of ambient noise).

Also, The Slip has generally received HIGHER ratings than Year Zero did.

And since when is the music not considered Reznor's strong suit? This guy is undoubtedly an expert in melody, harmony, production and arrangement (go listen to Still if you don't believe me) with The Downward Spiral being universally praised as one the best albums of the 90s. Exploiting trends in contemporary horror films? What the fuck are you talking about? This is the guy who wrote Hurt, not someone who works samples of 'Scream' into his music and somehow garners one of the most rabid and dedicated fanbases in all of commercial music in the process.

Reznor has been playing with large dynamic ranges and off-sounding tonalities at least since Broken and it's one the hallmarks of his style, so it's strange that Hannaham complains about it in Lights in the Sky as if he's noticing it for the first time.

All of this seems to point to the fact that Hannaham has probably listened to very little NIN and knows next to nothing about music in general. While this may quality him for a job at Pitchfork, perhaps Salon could hire someone to listen to the album before they write their next review?
