The McCain and his houses video took a couple of months work by at least 4 people ...
Personally, I'd look around for people who already have projects in the works -- I assume there are some -- and support the best of those.
The GWB AWOL story consumed the lives of a couple of people for months, possibly a year (it was much more detailed and involved "ancient" events, foggy and conflicting memories, apparently deliberately missing and concealed records - which were genuinely MISSING (except when they weren't) - including irrc, the mysterious DWI, the avoided flight exams (? possible drug use), unauthorized use of aircraft (? flights to Florida), Bush's community service and his overall flying records and ratings).
Hence, my advice is "think small," research impeccably, and work fast ... the convention is next week, then it's September. FOCUS.
out, how little interest/buzz it generated and how that "all turned out" ...
As you probably know, two active Table Talkers were very involved in that story ... It was excruciating watching them try to get anyone interested in that story even as their repository of facts and "proof" continued to grow ...
And just as it appeared to be poised to take off -- catastrophe! (manufactured, most likely).
Again, what is the message, who is the audience and is this the best and/or a good use of resources? I'm not pre-judging this. I'm trying to open up a more specific discussion beyond some vague, "hell yes, we should fight back"
I remain astonished that the Swift Boat folks were as successful as they were in even creating just a "big stink" and how little effect "facts" had on dampening the media frenzy.
Even the example you cite -- IF Liberman's positions had been known ... well, he succesfully obsfucated ... where was the counternarrative? Surely, the voters of Connecticutt were not kept in some "cone of silence" or given memory erasing drugs?
People tend to hear what reinforces their prejudices.
I'm all for showing the disparity between the myth and reality ... however, John McCain has been a much more conspicuous "war hero" than John Kerry EVER was and, as far as I know, he has no cadre of former "brothers in arms" willing to debunk him ... and he has nothing to compare to the "Winter Soldier" animosity (I live in an area with a lot of POW/MIA flag flying Vietnam era vets -- there were really ugly anti-Kerry as traitor bumperstickers in evidence).
Again, as I said yesterday, I'm not against "responding" or "pointing out" ... At a time when Obama is re-branding at the convention, I remain uncertain exactly WHO should be HOW MUCH energy on this to have WHAT NET EFFECT?
For the swift boaters, it was PERSONAL, and it was PAYBACK ... it wasn't about facts ... it likely wasn't even about "the election" ... it was about long simmering animosity ... and their efforts were not those of "the republican party" or even "re-elect Bush/Cheny" so the party and campaign could claim it was a "grassroots" efforts.
So, is the proposal that Glenn and Strange Bedfellows are going to be the "grassroots" here? if not, then whom?
