what a waste of 3 questions ... poking around in the dirt ...

anyone who gives a shit already knows there were/are unresolved "issues" ... and really, I DO.NOT.CARE. anymore than I care about any number of other 30-year-old differences of opinion ...

let's talk about Dave Mason and Jim Capaldi ... the MadDog and Englishmen tour ... or what **really** broke up Blind

Faith.

I was delighted to see Levon Helm recently on something (I think it was Scorsce's Blues miniseries) and delighted he was looking to stop the use of "The Weight" in that commercial .... I have much affection for them all ... including the conspiciously prematurely-dear-departed

What a waste ... I want an apology .... from the author... and I will always wish Robbie Robertson the best always ...

3 questions

1. What are you doing these days?

2. What/who are you listening to these days?

3. Gotta story you are willing to share? or, failing that, what's next?

As far as I've ever been able to tell, Robertson (more than the others) wanted to move on and beyond in any number of realms. I don't know that it was ambition or rather just a sense of destiny or boredom with the "been there, done that."

Again, as far as I've been able to tell, he has explored many new avenues/venues ... I have always admired his willingness to risk the unknown, to go beyond the obvious comfort zone of reunions, Traveling Willbury equivalents (not that there's anything wrong with them ... and there's good money and lotsa strokes to be found in moving the circumference of the familiar/known just-a-bit).

Ed Rushka is not bad company ...

Original article: I Like to Watch

Why is Heather calling "51 Birch Street" a Cinemax documentary ....

it was originally seen and reviewed in the fall of 2006 and it's credits, from the nyt review at that time are as follows:

51 BIRCH STREET

Opens today in Manhattan. [review of 10/18/2006 by AO Scott]

Written and directed by Doug Block; director of photography, Mr. Block; edited by Amy Seplin; music by H. Scott Salinas; produced by Mr. Block and Lori Cheatle; released by Truly Indie. At the Cinema Village, 22 East 12th Street, Greenwich Village. Running time: 88 minutes. This film is not rated.

it was quite the darling of the reviewers at that time (97% freshness score on Rotten Tomatoes) ... pity Heather didn't see it then ... but then she is a TELEVISION reviewer ... though giving "credit" to Cinemax for it's creation as well as failure to acknowledge it's theatrical release are interesting errors/oversights, imho, typical of Salon.

Stephanie and Heather are getting to be interchangeable imho.

I was struck last night by Tenet's apparent lack of genuine emotion ... I was listening rather than watching ...

the man sounded soul-less ... even his outrage and bombast was as modulated as a used-car salesman or civic club functionary (Lion's, Elk's).

In contrast, he made Michael Brown sound engaged and compassionate and ACCOUNTABLE ...

The 4 million advance he got for this book cannot possibly make up for the (quite justified but merciless) savaging of his character ... somehow I was left with the suspicion that his "best quality" was his "flunkiness" and that ultimately he had a flunky middle-manager mindset ... Like Alberto Gonzales ...

Many years ago my father advised me that I was making a common mistake at my job ... he said, "Susan, you think your job is the work you do... but in real life, your job is to make your boss happy." I rolled my eyes in disgust ... assuming that, in my case, healthcare, was somehow different than the movie business my dad worked in. However, my experiences in the intervening 30-plus years is that in MANY job and for many WORKERS, pleasing the boss is Job #1 and that safety and ethical concerns are often viewed as odious "more work" and "unncessary complications" ... cans of worms best ignored.

That standard really should not apply to jobs like ATTORNEY GENERAL or HEAD OF THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY, nor should it override other ethical and/or professional responsibilities in any job ... this consciencelessness in "public servants" entrusted with the "common good" is beyond disturbing and reminiscent of that of Nuremberg defendants.

These folks need to be held to account ... for starters, they have violated their oaths of office... and abused the public trust.

IMHO, the "emotionalism" is a tactic .... an anti-analytical, anti-intellectual tactic ..

His emotionalism was terrifying. This "feel my pain" whacker was the head of the CIA under two US Administrations?

It's also part of that "need" to use torture because the bad guys are so very very very bad .... and tough, so tough, you can't break them ...

It's very comic book and it's also been proven that torture is NOT magically how "more" effective, it's less effective ....

but his "guts" tells him otherwise ...

It also likely this "emotionalism", being the opposite of BORING actual data and policy talk, is part of Tenet's appeal ... his quaint "up from nothing" life story too must appeal to those executive branch down-home blue bloods ... who revel in visions of "evil doers" and "dead or alive" tough talk ...
