may god protect us from all who annoy or otherwise harrass us ... but please, leave the police for "last resort" ...

I think this was vastly overcharged and that the police had an "agenda" ... I'm almost more curious if Craig would have been arrested if he had been recognized.

There were complaints that this public restroom was a pick-up place -- so what else is new? -- lots of public facilities get a reputation. Most men simply say, No, thanks, and go on their way.... nuff said.

So what were the complaints ... that gay men were hooking up, making eyes, exchanging phone numbers and promises or that actual sexual contact was taking place in public? ewww, regardless of gender configuration ... and miles apart on the "call-the-police" scale ... people, particularly prostitutes, don't take hints kindly when they are "on a mission." Ignore the hints, the polite requests, and the police get called ... just like everywhere else .. public nuisance.

I'm more distressed by the "oh look, another hypocritical closeted ultra-straight appearing republican" ... dime a dozen... Almost of these cases appear to involve men who seem to REALLY believe that homosexuality and gay sex is an unspeakable sin, a sickness, a perversion... and do it anyway... compulsion, denial, wtf. I'm more inclined to pity them ... what a way to live your life ... but as far as I can tell "falling from grace" is an integral part of being a fundie ... along with "doubts"

If only it were the "hypocracy" that would cost these men their positions and livelihood ... and not the shame and stigma of being attracted to men ... and wanting sex, companionship, a prostitute, whatever ...

I'm very uncomfortable with the coverage of most of these incidents ... imho, the "gay" factor is given far too much importance. It's NOT coincidence that these outed "downlow" men are so vociferously anti-gay ...

Remember Al Pacino giving the Roy Cohn speech in Angel in America ... explaining how he couldn't be a "faggot" ... weak and powerless ... even as he had a steady stream of boy toy assistants.

I think he was vastly over-charged .. should have been given a warning in an police effort to simply move the action elsewhere ... I think delight over what should have been left a "private" matter is seriously misplaced.

Imagine if, instead, the policeman had said early on -- hey, I'm a policeman ... we've had complaints that this bathroom

has become a gay pickup spot ...

was the point to respond to the "complaints" or to publicly humiliate homosexuals? ... gosh ... I wonder

I'm quite aware that anonymous gay sex is common, rampant in areas ... closing the bathhouses in SF was hotly opposed

even at the height of the AIDS crisis... I've known a couple of gay prostitutes who could put on their casual attire, go for an afternoon's stroll and make a lot of money ...

bottom line -- they're here, they're queer, get over it ...

which does not mean that a nuisance situation should not be dealt with ... by the police if necessary ... and I have to wonder if this bathroom was in use by prostitutes and how long the problem had been going on ...

George Michael got busted in a public bathroom in a Los Angeles park cited as "notorious" ... well, just his bad luck to pick the wrong hour or day ....

In Los Angeles, when Rodney King was busted for soliciting a gay transvestite prostitute ... again, it was reported this occured in a place KNOWN to be frequented by gay transvestite prostitutes (who apparently have a tendency to beat up and rob some of their johns)...

My point is -- grow up -- there is a world of difference between gay men being friendly and trying to pick each other up ... maybe being flirtacious or sexy ... and blow jobs and the rest ... gay men are going to hook up and have sex and it takes time to get the word out that a previous "hot spot" is now unsafe.

I'm fine with charging someone who persists when told to shove off ... but someone who just showed up on the wrong day ... (and didn't even hook up).

look it woud be inappropriate for individuals to set up business -- say day trading -- in a public rest room ...

or a bookie operation or a shoe shine concession ... similarly, it would be inappropriate for individuals to undress very far bathe or to make a bed on the floor or audibly masturbate in the privacy of their stall with the door locked ... so, hire a rent-a-cop and tell them to move on ...

Craig touched no one, said nothing (irrc) ... etcetera.

Why put ANYTHING on his PERMANENT RECORD much less anything indicating something more than "bad judgment" ... move along.

This sounds like a badly designed sting ... but it amounts to something akin to busting someone for talking to someone who appears to be a prostitute ...

yes, Craig really is something of a trifecta ....

in this he embodies the "gay by choice" conundrum ... he's been married forever, has available "normal" sexual outlets, and "choses" handjobs from male cruises (prostitutes or otherwise).

he's also one of those "bathroom perverts" that I think most boys learn about quite young .... I know at age 5 or so, I knew that aside from creepy bad men who might be "extra nice" to me as a pretty little girl, there were especially sicko men who went after boys at the beach rest rooms .... none of us were allowed to go to the beach bathroom alone -- EVER -- we couldn't even play in the vicinity ... This was Santa Monica Muscle Beach in the 1950s and there were a lot of wierdos (as we called them, not so much gay as wierd and rather scary).

He's also such a "clean old man" to use the Beatle's phase from Hard Day's Night ... he looks like he might be a pastor or boy scout leader ... much more so than, say, Barney Frank ....

He's perfect!
