Chris Matthews Humiliates State Senator Kirk Watson On MSNBC
[Read the article: "Hardball": Barack Obama is no Neville Chamberlain ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Texas State Senator Kirk Watson (D-TX) learned a lesson in preparedness Tuesday night when he was humiliated on MSNBC. Watson was on to talk about his support of Senator Obama alongside Representative Stephanie Tubbs (D-OH), who backs Senator Clinton. Watson has endorsed Obama and writes glowingly of all the things Obama will do for the country, if elected.
But he was unable to answer Chris Matthews most basic demand: "Name some of his legislative accomplishments... name any..." A fantastically awkward mix of dead air, stuttering, laughter and repetition ensued, as Watson could not name a single one. Matthews laid off part way through, it seems at the demand of his producers, but came back around to lay a final blow at the end.
So . . . That really happened.
On Tuesday night, after an important and historic victory in the Wisconsin Presidential Primary by Senator Barack Obama, I appeared on the MSNBC post-election program. "Hardball" host Chris Matthews (who is, it turns out, as ferocious as they say), began grilling me on Senator Obama's legislative record.
And my mind went blank. I expected to be asked about the primary that night, or the big one coming up in Texas on March 4, or just about anything else in the news. When the subject changed so emphatically, I reached for information that millions of my fellow Obama supporters could recite by heart, and I couldn't summon it.
My most unfortunate gaffe is not, in any way, a comment on Senator Obama, his substantial record, or the great opportunity we all share to elect him President of the United States.
We hate Matthews when he goes after our candidate, but love him for badgering this rightwing nut. As much as I loved watching the man being reduced to his hateful pile of nonsense, I am not sure this is the kind of journalism, or should I say shouting drama, is good for political discourse

[Read the article: How will Barack Obama get to 270?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Barack Dukakis won't get anywhere near 270. The number of people I know who literally laugh at the proposition of voting for him is astounding, and these are long time Democrats in liberal states. Their reasons vary but the most frequent is his lack of experience. They view Obama supporters as childish and gullible.
I am trying to be as un-gullible and adult as I can be, after reading your post. First, if you can understand me on the Barack Dukakis nuptials. I am escaping the symbolism here.
Secondly, the number of people you know, long time Democrats in these various liberal states, is remarkable. And even though they are laughing about Obama's lack of experience and all that, you will have to admit that the sampling of your friends and acquaintances is but anecdotal and does not really amount to any empirical evidence.
According to the polls and also the primary vote, you will agree that a lot of people felt exactly the same way about Clinton and McCain.
But I am more interested in the continuing dimunization of Obama supporters as childish and gullible as opposed to supporters of Clinton or McCain. Was there something in our mothers' milk that kept us naive and impressionable, even after we attained education, travelled the world over and raised some exceptional children, while working our hearts out to ensure social justice for all. Matter of fact, I could send you a list of Obama endorsers and we could go through the names of these accomplished movers and shakers and tick them off as childish and gullible or not.
I know you are a better person than that, because you did acknowledge, that in spite of Ted Kennedy being complete heel in his personal life, he is one of the best senators we have ever had.

[Read the article: How will Barack Obama get to 270?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Does Barack have an obligation to tell the Democrats, super delegates in particular, about this tape? Did Barack and his campaign do their basic homework and identify this tape as a potential problem? And, more importantly, do they have a copy? Probably better to deal with this issue before the convention rather than wait for October. What do you think?
Absolutely.

So much for some Americans still in denial about slavery.

[Read the article: Will gay marriage doom the Democrats?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Barack Obama is sure not getting your grudging respect yet,is he, Joan Walsh? Oh well. I do hope that at some point you will accept that Clinton lost fairly and that the blame resides solely in the way she conducted her campaign. Not very well.
This has been an unusual year, and unusual mix of polls and politics. McCain was given up for dead last year, today he is the GOP nominee, crushing the religious right. Last year, Hillary was the queen in waiting with an overwhelming lead, this year, she has lost the nomination. There are more important issues that worry the electorate: the war in Iraq, the economy, home foreclosures, unemployment, outsourcing of jobs. Where do gay marriages fit into these disasters, only if Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell (he is dead) blame gays and lesbians for the state of the union. god's wrath of course does not include the divorced which the good book equally condemns.
Maybe, Barack needs to give another seminal speech - this time on the social and human rights of gays and lesbians. He could do that and be unafraid of homophobic backlash.

[Read the article: How will Barack Obama get to 270?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Many people I know in Ca who voted for Hillary are pretty disgusted with her now.
Our many friends in CA who voted for Hillary, now wish that they could turn back the clock. Of course, this is anecdotal, but I wonder how many have regretted voting for Hillary in the early stages of the primary.
At the time, the whole issue was about Obama's experience. Now we see that experience brought with it the bad habits of nasty politics.
