  • Carmody ad others

[Read the article: Our right-wing arbiters of masculinity]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Carmody, I couldn't agree with you more.

Looks mean Nothing. Despite that, too many here have nearly the same hangups on physicality as the freepers Glenn correctly skewers. Being telegenic obviously helps someone get elected and that's real but sad.

    Change of subject

Past military service is currently a negative for many progressives. I've read how veterans are different; too authoritarian. That's complete hogwash.

If we elect people with combat experience I can pretty much assure you they'll only send others into combat with the greatest relectance and only upon the greatest real threat. If you've been there you don't want to go back and you certainly don't wish the experience upon others.

  • We have our own secret police

[Read the article: The significance of the FBI's law-breaking]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I always wondered what it must be like living in a country witha secret police force. It is so nice of the FBI to educate me in that regard.

Do you think it's reasonable to assume that they're collecting data? Or are they doing something with it? When we find out about people just disappearing?

  • Out of curiosity

[Read the article: Last chance for Mideast peace]

Can my relatives and those other Syrian Jews return to the homes in Damascus they violently evicted from in the late 1940's. we had I'm told a nice house in a nice location. Can we get that back as part of the right of return?

  • I hope you're right

[Read the article: A genuine political sea change?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I can see the changes you speak of. And they're so positive.

But deep inside me I have this fear that the Thug Party will invent an incident and then declare that because of it 2008 elections will be postponed as Dumb Leader leads us to his form of victory.

Halliburton crews will soon be around *after the incodent) to empty our wallets and bank accounts so that ALL money (not just the current vast bulk) is spent by those who deserve it and know how to spend it while killing dissenters.

Supreme court justice Robert Jackson wrote many, many brilliant opinions and essays. The lines the Thugs don't get is: "Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard." from West virginia Bd of ed v Barnette in 1943.

  • Simply brilliant

Your posts are always superb. This one is above and beyond.

There's little to say. You discuss a topic (or topics) that many note but for the most part ignore. Yet what is going on is as vital to our future as anything else happening. It is as vital as investigating and thwarting potential terror cells. For if what is happening conjtinues on the course you make so clear, there will be no USA as we were, oh heck, thought in school.

    Fantastic post.

  • You trust Never Say Anything?

[Read the article: PBS's "Frontline: Spying on the Home Front"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You seem to imply that some of the monitoring activities have slowed or ceased. I doubt it. I suspect Never Say Anything has moved the puzzle pieces to hide things. Long ago and far away I knew quite well of their powers, and they were awesome decades ago. I think it would be a terrible error to assume that they do not record EVERYTHING they can. Of course recording all that data is one thing. Looking into the data for keywords and patterns (watch for patterns) is another. At one time the analysis was heavily human. Yes the kickouts were digital even back in the 70s, but the analysis was human and very slow. Now I assume it's mostly digital. But the saving grace with Never Say Anything is that it is a gubmint bureaucracy. If it can fubared, it will be fubared. Job security, you know.

  • 1981?

[Read the article: What Fred Thompson means by the "rule of law"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"The principles you have been defending since 1981. For Americans, these are found in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence."

I thought Americans have been defending those principles since oh the late 1700's.

I guess not Fred's demographic target. They were under some thumb until St. Ron prevailed and freed them. And since then they added a new principle or two.

    We're going to get even.

and All the mony is ours.

  • Updates

    Thanks for update on Edsall.

These catch all posts are appreciated.

  • So if Congress still

lacks the brains or spine to impeach these thugs and that's the only word that should be used, even for the Decider-thug, can someone bring RICO charges? This is exactly the situation that RICO is now used in.

  • A true bushism

[Read the article: Clinton, McCain and the B-word]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"I respect anyone who gets the nomination of the DEMOCRAT party. "

Yeah right, respect; what a jerk.

  • No thanks, Mr. Obama

[Read the article: Barack Obama: "Committed Christian -- Called to Bring Change"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm glad you're a committed Christian. I'm not. Not a Christian even. And I've learned that many of the words in your brochure have been used as weapons against those of my faith. So while I will vote for you in November if you're the nominee, I hope I don't have to. Excesses kill. That's too true of religion. Doesn't matter what the religion is. The true believers think it's their way or the highway. Again, no thanks.

  • Mathews is a moron

[Read the article: "Pennsylvania prefers a beefier sort than either of these people"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And Gov. Ed Rendell would like right at home in an NFL offensive line. Big guy. And his size is totally irrelevant as I suspect he'd say.

  • Aim at the right target: McCain

[Read the article: Geraldine Ferraro still needs to apologize]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Joe, I respect your opinions and I even buy all your books (some of which are tough going). You're wrong here though. Ferraro, by my lights is a jerk. She made a stupid statement. But the First Amendment explicitly says she can. If I had to apologize for all the stupid things I've said in my life, I'd never get another word in edgewise. It wouldn't surprise me if you were also in that boat.

We all need to get away from apologies, calls for resignations, and saying that something offends me.

We need to focus on what matters, the general election. If we keep up this grade school he hurt me, she hurt me bullshit, we embitter half the Democrats and all the Republicans. As is, we may already b looking at the incredible thought of a McCain win.

Every Republican should be an easy target. We just need to remember to shoot at them and not at ourselves.
