Yes, they are awful

"He's not so much a visionary as he is relentless. Max simply does not get burned out and quit."

God these people are irritating, and this "success is everything" ethic is a major contributor to the mess the country is currently in. When Max drops dead of a self-induced coronary from overwork at 36, will the undominated world be any worse off? I don't think so.

Standard operating procedure

"a drafting error" that happened when policywriters merely cut and pasted a 20-year-old Defense Department regulation into the contracting crackdown.

Typical; this just shows how serious the Administration took the idea of writing new rules to "crack down" on fraud and waste: hand the job off to some low-level flunky who's too lazy to even put forth the miniscule effort it would take to cut-and-paste from current, more relevant documents.

But how much did Mukasey pay for a haircut?

Well I'm pretty sure this story won't be covered. First of all, the media (with exception of Olbermann) failed to cover it. Second, those few outlets that did (AP and others) transformed his statement of fact into a hypothetical one.

Of course they won't cover it, not with The Man Called Petraeus "testifying" (to use that word as loosely as possible) about how sunny and wonderful things are in Iraq. As we all know, the media can't cover two things at once. Someone could come out tomorrow with iron-clad proof that showed beyond any shadow of a doubt that Dick Cheney personally paid the 19 highjackers to commit the atrocities of 9/11 and, on the same day, if Hillary made some verbal flub and Obama bowled a gutterball and smoked a cigarette, guess which story Dutchess Cokie, Timmeh and all the rest of them would be flogging? It has gotten just that bad.

The excellent work that Glenn does only further highlights the depths of the mainstream media's corruption and utter failure to do what they get (extravagantly) paid for.

Saint McCain cannot be questioned!

Then how DARE that wise-ass 16-year-old girl even THINK about asking him why he was there. DUH. Where was the goddam taser??

I was amazed they even let the kid finish her sentence before frying her with 10,000 volts and dragging her unconscious out of there and then giving her 687 days of detention. How dare she have the effrontery to think the First Amendment gives her the right to challenge Saint McCain?

(/sarcasm)

Shills

Well, it certainly looks like McCain's backyard BBQ for all those media shills - er, I mean journalists, is paying dividends!

But who can pay attention to the war when - look! over there! - a politician is having sex! With someone who isn't his wife! Heaven forfend!

Spitzer was targeted

I wouldn't be suprised if some of the very Republican Wall Streeters screaming for his resignation haven't used all that good bonus cash (from gaming the mortgage industry and oil markets) to sample these same ladies' wares as well.

-- frederico

And I wouldn't be surprised--at all--if Wall Street isn't where this whole thing started. Spitzer went after a lot of those robber barons and pissed them off, so one of them probably hollered at his office admin to get his best friend George W. Bush on the line and called in a favor. Shrub's corrupt Department of Justice took it from there. Of course, if Spitzer had been a Republican, this all would have been quietly swept under the rug as a "private matter."

Modern "cineplexes" ruin movies like this

I wonder how much of the lackluster box office of "No Country For Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood" are attributable to the generally lousy moviegoing experience most major theater chains provide. These are both superb films (each with gorgeous cinematography that deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible) but are also the type of literate, challenging films that most modern cineplexes make impossible to enjoy with cellphones and Blackberry's going off, people stumbling in thirty minutes into the film and (loudly) looking for a seat, crying kids, teens talking throughout the movie, etc.

I'd bet that a lot of the audience for these movies has probably invested in a really good home theater system, and would rather watch them there. Look for both pics to do really good business on DVD and Blu-Ray.

"The Major"

What type of Dr. Moreau-like government facility are people like "the Major" grown in? Is it lack of contact with the outside world or some bizarre genetic problem that results in none of these wingnuts being able to spell?

Memo to John King

KING: To most Americans out there, and to a guy like me who's spent most of his time, in the past several months, out covering a presidential campaign, this is highly detailed stuff that's pretty hard to follow.

Memo to John King:

You claim to be a "journalist" with "20 years of experience." Journalists tend to work in news organizations and -- more often than not -- newsrooms. These places are filled to overflowing with what is called "information." Some of it is on paper, some of it is in books, and a great deal of it can be found on those shiny, futuristic things called "computers." These wonders of the modern age have things on them like LexisNexis, the AP wires, and even a newfangled thing called the "Google." You'd be positively amazed at how quickly you can find things out -- you are a "journalist," right John? -- almost without even trying! (And we all know how much you hate to try! Heh heh). So, before you conduct your next interview or take that job at "Access Hollywood" (whichever comes first) just know that all the information you need to "follow" something is only a few keystrokes away and even the laziest people can find it, so a guy like you shouldn't have a problem. Stay classy, John!

Original article: GOP politics in a nutshell

The Commies Are Coming, The Commies Are Coming!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Nightmare

Jack Webb explains how safe Jerry is in his world but when Jerry goes to sleep Webb smirks and tells the audience Jerry is going to have a Red Nightmare.

46 years later and it's the same ridiculous propaganda, only nowhere near as entertaining and a hundred times as stupid.
