It will take years to undo torture, secrecy and unitary claims...

These were the workings of egomaniacal madmen who tried - unsuccessfully and decisively failed - to usurp permanent positions in the executive.

Would it go too far to say that our military was just simply unprepared to back up BusCheney's lunatic power grab at this time? No, it's not an exaggeration: reality. Terror conditions will take a while to shape up or become necessary.

In the meantime, Obama will do his very best to drive the left absolutely crazy with this - just driving the debate, Chicago-style.

Why should he fight for transparency and prosecution of BushCheney when others on his left are far better and more aptly positioned (and may be even more effective) to expose the fear-mongering, muzzling the previous team and airing out their stench?

Better that Obama play defense now, and, on the off-chance that a tragic new 9/11 should befall us, he will be able to state unequivocally that it is good to have the powers that he needs to wrangle the terrorists back into their caves and make us all safe in our beds once again. No tarps or duct tape will be required this time. And there will be no more torture.

Dangerous...

...times call for courage 'above & beyond the call....' Where are those people in government who will address their responsibilities with 'grace under fire...' and take their proper place in historic action as heroes?

Are there any lawyers, legislators elected officials who are brave enough to simply stand up against law-breaking cowards ...and for the rule of law we so desperately need?

I knew I should have been at a teabagging party

somewhere yesterday. Those a****les may have the right idea...but...nah. I prefer to march on real grass, not astroturf™.

The Go**mn Presidency is Astroturf™ !!!

paid for by sponsors Bush I and Bush II. (We haven't heard enough truth since William Colby.)

It's time for a new Church Committee. And a new Pike C't'e., too.

Squeeze Panetta! Make him talk! If all that's required for agents to get off the hook of torture charges is to resign, then let them resign and go work for the Pakistanis. Send them there! wtf they need a bailout, too.

Be all that you can be! Go CIA! Leave now! CIA: screwing up the world for its astroturfing™ corporate sponsors for 50 years. It's time to clean house. Take your Bushies with you!

Hypocrisy Clause in Black & White!

I can hear Beck & Bachmann already:

"Is Obama rescinding our right to hypocrisy? There he goes again, taking away our fundamental rights. Watch out, America! Like a magician, Obama is vanishing the Bill of Rights, turning it into a water funnel. Next thing you know he'll be demanding we turn our guns over to the flying Imams."

Why isn't Cheney under arrest?

It's pretty obvious to anyone who's been reading about his direct links to torture - that he himself has now confirmed with his request for declassification of certain memos - that he's a freaking flight risk!

I don't mean to be silly here. His legal peril and what he calls the nation's vulnerability to terrorism - due to Cheney's claim that Obama is soft on torture - require prompt investigation and sober prosecution of this evil man. He should not be permitted the freedom to disseminate lies and propaganda on TV when these appearances endanger the public. Let his lawyers issue his statements and essays. Let those who decry "a witch hunt" speak up or speak for him. But it is so inappropriate for a madman like Cheney to be purveying such weird nonsense simply because he was the freaking Vice President of the United States!!

But it is really too much for the nation to be endangered. In fact, it's illegal to foment violence by our enemies or to give terrorists tools for recruitment. You can look it up.

The miasma of the decay of BushCo rises

against the disinfectant of fresh air and sunlight.

Thank you so much, Glenn, for giving us words of such clarity, sincerity and precision. If the subject were not so self-evident, one could say that you are as erudite on the subject of state secrets for official aggrandizement as you are on the subject of torture outrageously perpetrated for propaganda.

Clarity demands that such tautologies be countered with all of the energy and complexity you convey. And your voice is one of the most relentlessly consistent.

Thank you. You give us hope.

scotus in Boumedienne:

Within the Constitution’s separation-of-powers structure, few exercises of judicial power are as legitimate or as necessary as the responsibility to hear challenges to the authority of the Executive to imprison a person.

A corollary decision might have stated the obvious theme: the Bush administration was advocating judicial nullification!

I prefer GREENWALD, correctly capitalized and accurate. But he's had more practice than most of the sausage that comprises scotus so it's an unfair comparison for the most part.

Incest:::

decayed DNA --- a perfect analogy for Rosen's Page Six-style analysis of Sotomayor. I can almost hear the insipid lies and whispers.

In search of relevance, they degrade themselves with outrageously flawed stupidities...even lawyers - who should know better - can't quite pull off the scams. It's the miasma of their party, their elitism and their sense of entitlement. Hubris, again.

The specific information about Binyam's mistreatment must be made public.

But it will only be made public by the Obama administration if and when it is politically expedient to do so. Arrangements need to be made for the disposition of the court case of this terrorist, or UK will be saddled with the problem of increased threats for Binyam's release. And if there was ever a case to be made that the two governments, US and UK, have conspired to pervert justice, this is it.
