  • Knoller Responds With A Challenge

[Read the article: The Bill Moyers documentary on our failed and barren press]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Sorry if this has already been mentioned I didn't take the time to search through and find out.

Mark Knoller says he was shocked by the "nature depth and fury" of the responses to his post attacking Moyers documentary.

Not surprising since Mr. Knoller appears to think that he and the press corps truly behaved responsibly.

Mr. Knoller offers this challenge in response:

    YOU be the reporter!

It’s March 6, 2003. Pres Bush is moving closer to ordering an attack on Iraq.

You’re in the East Room for his primetime news conference – and he calls on you.

    What do you ask?

What finely-crafted question do you pose that both serves the public interest and will get a meaningful response?

I assure you my colleagues and I will read what you write.

I'm certainly planning on taking him up on this and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Perhaps

  • Timing and Replacement

[Read the article: The Democrats' responsibility in the wake of Gonzales' resignation]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It strikes me that the timing of Gonzales' resignation must have been carefully orchestrated. Why dump him now after propping him up for so long? The White House would rather talk about Gonzales and the problems surrounding the Justice Department than the situation in Iraq and the upcoming report on the surge.

Don't worry about the death and destruction in Iraq--look over here at Gonzales and these other more nuanced legalistic problems that we hope the average American doesn't understand and thus forgets about.

Here's a thought, Dems get Sandra Day O'Connor to agree to be the interim AG, the appointment will only be until the end of the administration. Then announce that she is the only person that the senate won't filibuster. Far fetched perhaps but it would be a great stand to take.

  • My Question For Salon

[Read the article: My questions for President Ahmadinejad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm pleased to be able to read Mr. Bollinger's introduction and questioning of of Mr. Ahmadinejad. His words are certainly of note as the invitation to Mr. Ahmadinejad has become a news story.

To provide Mr. Bollinger's largely disparaging and certainly confrontational remarks without also providing Mr. Ahmadinejad's response undermines Salon's otherwise excellent journalistic record.

As a long time reader and subscriber to Salon I am disappointed by your decision.

This is a problem with an easy solution. I will anticipate the posting of Mr. Ahmadinejad's comments.

  • Not a fair comparison

[Read the article: John Edwards' Katrina contest]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is not a fair comparison, at least based upon the information that you have provided.

Spending time with Mr. Giuliani at Ground Zero essentially as a tourist is indeed outrageous. Spending time working with Mr. Edwards in New Orleans is a worthwhile cause.

It would become a fair comparison only if Mr. Giuliani and his guest were helping construct the memorial at ground zero. As it is, your comparison remains specious and unfair.

You are not comparing apples and oranges, you are comparing apples and baby wolverines.

  • Stick with it

[Read the article: A blockbuster for Radiohead's "In Rainbows"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I had serious trouble with the site for about the last 40 minutes. But I breezed through in about 5 just now.

  • Human Rights v. National Security

[Read the article: Biden scores; Richardson whiffs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I too would like to register my disappointment and disagreement with Mr. Grieve. I wholly appreciate a candidate that is unequivocal in his or her answers especially when dealing with topics of fundamental and paramount importance.

Mr. Richardson is correct, without our human and constitutional rights intact we can never be secure.

  • Current Move-On ads

[Read the article: Huckabee, Obama, Kerry, Dean: Are they Macs or PCs?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is an omission in your list of apple ad 'spoofs'.

Move-on currently has four new progressive v. conservative (pro v. con)ads up on its site that you can view and vote for your favorite to eventually(hopefully?) run on TV. Two of these spots are mac v PC nods.

I'm not sure that spoof is the right term for all of the knock-offs that were referenced in the piece. Surely homage or imitation would be a better fit for most if not all of them. Very few, if any, are meant to poke fun at the original mac ads. Which is, for myself at least, the very essence of a spoof.

  • move-on link

[Read the article: Huckabee, Obama, Kerry, Dean: Are they Macs or PCs?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Apologies, I left out the link for the move-on ads.

  • Methodology and Questions

[Read the article: Quarter of Clinton supporters would vote McCain over Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm very disappointed to see this report passed along with little or no thought given to examining the methodology put into it and specifically the questions asked.

I've just finished reading the topline questionnaire provided on the survey's website, and I cannot find the questions that were used to derive this information. Respondents weren't asked anything even close to "Given your support for Candidate A in the primary would you vote for Candidate B or McCain in the General election?"

(If someone with a richer understanding of polling than I wants to take a look and can explain to me what I missed that would be fantastic)

I don't trust any information these days that doesn't clearly lay out its derivation. And saying that Pew is a trusted source is about as good as saying that ABC (or insert any major news provider) is a trusted source.

I think it's very interesting that so many Salon readers are willing to go off on a rant based on this inflammatory information without checking its sourcing. And nearly as disappointing as its posting in War Room.
