More lawlessness and BS

This makes me so angry. I was so relieved when Bush and Cheney were out of the WH thinking that we could finally reclaim our country. Instead, we have a continuation of the Bush/Cheney secrecy and lies coming from a new administration. Is Obama just the front guy for the establishment? Is he just a guy they hired to make speeches? How can he look any of us in the eye and continue to claim that he believes in the rule of law? And how dare he get angry when he is compared to Bush and Cheney!

And while I'm in this mood, why do we only see political spin artists as guests on cable? It doesn't matter what the issue, it's always the spinmeisters who are called on to "discuss" the issues. We rarely have any experts to discuss topics of the day, only political BS spinners. I'm so sick of it. Where can we buy pitchforks?

@Jim

There are other paths by which to arrive at the conclusion that some things are more important than others and that we can’t have everything.

I have children too and I'd much rather have my children live in a nation that first and foremost respects the rule of law then in one where people think you have to choose between following the law and having health care. By the way if we push the rule of law to the side to make way for "more important" issues what makes you think that those issues that you think are "more important" won't be eliminated with the stroke of a pen?

@Jim

No one's talking about "pushing aside the rule of law"

Really? What do you call failure to prosecute war crimes?

Sorry Jim, but I don't buy your argument. Just because our laws aren't perfect doesn't mean that we should give war criminals a pass. What kind of crazy logic is that?

@ Jim Montague

If it hasn't been evident all along, Jim writes for soap operas, quite successfully too. Thats how the conversation never seems to end. Engaging him is a waste of time, much like watching his soaps.

LOL. So that explains it. I never cared for soap operas. I always thought their story lines were badly written. LOL

@Jim

So which soap operas do you write?

"Open FOIA Act of 2009"

I just read the bill (I was too angry to do it yesterday) and spotted this:

SHORT TITLE

1Sec. 1306. This section may be cited as the ‘OPEN FOIA Act of 2009’.

The title is Orwellian. Open FOIA? Right. I guess now Obama can say his administration is transparent because they passed the Open FOIA Act of 2009.

Was it a suicide?

I'm not ready to believe yet that he did commit suicide.

Corporate Democrats

If the Obama health care reform does not even include a public option then I will wash my hands with the Democratic Party forever. I'm really tired of the Democratic Party playing us all for fools while they steadily work to enrich corporations at our expense just like the Republicans do. The hell with all of them.

Tuesday, June 9, 2009 08:48 AM

Bets?

I wonder how long before our establishment media reports about some "scary" terrorist plot that will cause our weak kneed Democrats to do a 180 and end up rushing to pass the Graham-Lieberman amendment?

Organized Push Back?

Glenn, you and emptywheel must be making a difference because there are an awful lot of people who seem to have their panties in a wad visiting your site and hers today. LOL

Lieberman and the unitary executive theory

I don't know how he does it but Senator Lieberman always manages to top his latest outrageous statement with yet a new one. His comment in the 2nd video that President Obama must sign an executive order to classify these photos to protect our troops and show who's in charge of our government is just breathtaking. In Lieberman's world (like Cheney & Co.) there are no co-equal branches of government, the president is the one IN CHARGE.

The twisted thinking of the unitary executive crowd really MUST be publicly discredited ASAP.

@Harpie

After I posted my comment I went back and read the thread and saw that you too noticed the Lieberman comment. Didn't it just make your stomach turn?

I also noticed the shit eating grin he had on his face as O'Reilly trashed Pelosi. Lieberman really makes my skin crawl. I hope the people of Connecticut spare us all by throwing this smarmy, self-serving cretin out of office.

@PDA

Thanks for saving me the trouble of responding to NOB. He evidently needs help with his reading comprehension skills.

More Government Secrecy in the interest of "national security"

Coal Ash Spills Too Dangerous To Reveal To Public, Says DHS

Just how bad has the coal ash situation gotten in the United States? So bad that the Department of Homeland Security has told Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) that her committee can't publicly disclose the location of coal ash dumps across the country.

The pollution is so toxic, so dangerous, that an enemy of the United States -- or a storm or some other disrupting event -- could easily cause them to spill out and lay waste to any area nearby.

{snip}

"Homeland Security and the Army Corps [of Engineers] have decided in the interests of national security they can't make these sites known," she said.

@omooex

Really. It's absolutely absurd. We won't let you know that you live next to a toxic dump because we want to protect you from terrorists. Heckuva job DHS.

Friday, June 12, 2009 08:52 AM

@NOB

NOB, the reference to Lieberman, Graham and O'Reilly was meant to tweak the nose of those rabid Obama supporters who support anything Obama does even things they didn't support when Bush did it. It's a reminder to them that THEY are allowing politics to interfere with rational, principled decision making.
