Agree and disagree

Sorry, I have to repost to add the part that was left off.

While I agree with the overall view of Mr. Kamiya. I disagree with him that the American people were fully aware of what was being done right before the 2004 election. When the Abu Ghraib story broke the media was pretty much uncritically reporting the Bush claim that these were just a few "bad apples." While a lot of us news junkies saw through this narrative a lot of the American people did not.

I do agree that once more evidence began to spill out that everyone should have known what happened but right before the 2004 election the media did not do it's job to inform the people about what was really going on. I also agree that it's up to our leaders to follow the rule of law and to resist the mob when they cry for revenge. Unfortunately for us there were far too many of our media personalities and our leaders who were not only part of the mob but leading it.

It's also unfortunate that those same media personalities and politicians who made the mistake of leading the mob are now making another mistake by trying to downplay what happened. They don't want investigations and they most certainly don't want the rule of law followed with regard to prosecutions. They want it to all go away so they don't have to be reminded about their role in this tragedy. They turn equal rights under law on it's head in order to avoid accountability for the torturers and for those who enabled them by cheering them on or by remaining silent.

Kentucky Derby and War Criminals

I'm definitely focused on accountability for the Bush war criminals because even when I did my post today about my city's Kentucky Derby I was still thinking about the Bush war criminals. LOL

The Bush Connection

I thought it was appropriate that a former lawyer for the Bush 2000 recount is the lawyer for the Sheikh Issa.

The "'story that we think ABC is being told is grossly misleading; it is in large measure demonstrably untrue; and it is defamatory to Sheikh Issa." Bristow represented George W. Bush in the Florida recount case in 2000. Among the firm's partners is former Secretary of State James Baker.

Jane Harman is laughable

It's laughable to have Jane Harman complaining about wiretapping. Who does she think she's fooling? Oh, right, I forgot the MSM will no doubt believe every word of it.

I was looking for a link to add to a blog post I was finishing today when I saw the Froomkin column. I was glad to see him challenge the claim that the public knew all about the Bush torture prior to the 2004 election. I actually ended up adding his blog post as a link to the post I was working on because part of my comments dealt with that very topic. If you want to read my post it's called:

Vigilante Justice Masquerading as the Rule of Law (link at sig)

I use scenes from the 1936 movie Fury, that was about vigilante justice, and compare them with what's happened with today's issue of Bush administration torture. It's amazing how close they are to each other.

TNR up to old tricks again

I'm not surprised that TNR relied so heavily on anonymous sources for their Sotomayor story. After all they relied on made up sources for their Stephen Glass pieces. Anonymous sourcing from TNR is just a variation on the Glass method of journalism.

Newly Released CIA Documents

This is off topic but did everyone see the Jason Leopold piece out a couple of days ago about newly released CIA documents?

Disappointing but not surprising

These results should make our establishment media very happy considering they, along with Bush officials responsible for torture, have been pushing the no accountability narrative for quite some time now.

More Stories Needed

What a shame that our establishment media didn't cover the torture story as much as Salon and others.

Mark my words, when the DOD finally releases more photos (soon) the establishment media will start doing stories about how the photos and not the torture is what is inflaming the Muslim world. Yeah, they'll blame it on the release of the photos not the torture itself. Just wait and see.

Wow

I guess I shouldn't be surprised about this but it just blows my mind every time I see another example of the mind-boggling hypocrisy practiced by our establishment media. They just keep digging their hole of deceit deeper and deeper and yet they are shocked that we no longer trust or believe them.

One of Your Best

Excellent column, Glenn! I think this is one of your best and that's saying something!

Where there is a will, there is a way

I think when Johnson was nominated they never had any intention of getting her confirmed. It was nothing but a PR move to placate those of us who support the rule of law.

Glenn's laid it out quite clearly that if their is a will there is a way to get her confirmed. If she is not confirmed it will be because Obama and the Senate leadership don't want her confirmed.
