The first name of the woman from MSNBC is Tamara. They never mentioned her last name (after listening to her comments I can see why).
Newsweek is running a story called "The Democrats Wimp Factor" that needs some comments. I hope everyone will log on and set them straight.

Here is the comment I tried to leave (it wouldn't accept my comment so I will try later)
I love how the media bring up all these Republican non-issues during the Primaries in an effort to frame the Democratic nominee as an elitist, wimpy un-American radical and then they turn around and blame it on the Democrats. What chutzpah!
But unlike 2004 the majority of Democrats in 2008 are wise to this media ploy. Everytime you guys try to pull this pathetic stunt in the General election we are going to be all over you. If you want to lose your reputation as a serious journalist the best way to do it is to push these GOP themes in 2008. This is one year the public will not stand for elevating trivial tabloid trash over substance.
I thought Kurtz did a lousy job in his column. He worked at CNN and WaPo and didn't include any new reporting about either of them. Why not? How hard would it have been for Kurtz to tell his readers if the WaPo, like the NYT, also used commentary from these generals? He also works for CNN so why not try to get additional info from CNN?
I usually agree with Glenn but in this case I think Glenn lets Kurtz off too easy. Although in fairness, Glenn's critique of Kurtz column may be understandable in light of the fact that the rest of the media didn't even bother to cover the story at all.
Glenn, you are absolutely correct. What I find hard to understand is that so many Obama & Clinton supporters are so blind to this fact. They consistently take the media bait which of course enables the media to continue with their charade.
I couldn't agree more (except for the part about NASCAR...I too watch NASCAR...sorry Glenn it's not just viewed by right-wingers. LOL).
I think we also need to call Mr. Hoyer to let him know that if he continues along this line that he will pay a price.

I called his office just a few moments ago and told the woman answering the phone that I was outraged by reports that Rep. Hoyer is involved in some backroom negotiations to give Bush the immunity for Telecoms that he's been seeking. I told her that if Hoyer proceeds along this path that I will donate every spare dime that I have to make sure that he is defeated even it requires me supporting a Republican.
My choice, John Edwards, is not in the list.
Glenn, thanks for continuing to dig on this story.
I was reading through some of the ACLU documents and wondered about this phrase used in State Dept. Cable 3.
"The Detention of an enemy combatant is not an act of punishment but one of security and military necessity."
Remember when Leslie Stahl interviewed Scalia and he told her that torture wasn't punishment.
Stahl: If someone's in custody, as in Abu Ghraib, and they are brutalized by a law enforcement person, if you listen to the expression 'cruel and unusual punishment,' doesn't that apply?" Stahl asks.
"No, No," Scalia replies.
"Cruel and unusual punishment?" Stahl asks.
"To the contrary," Scalia says. "Has anybody ever referred to torture as punishment? I don't think so."
I just thought it was curious that both the Bush administration and Scalia made this type of argument. I wonder if Scalia gave the Bush administration any "advice" on the issue of torture?
I'm glad to see the Carney ads. I think we also need to pay attention to the DLC Democrats. I keep seeing Harold Ford on MSNBC (he's become a fixture) pushing the DLC agenda. He was on MSNBC this morning saying that Obama needs to understand that the reason we picked up the three special election seats was because those candidates were more middle of the road candidates and that Obama needs to come to the "middle". Of course all the pundits on the show were agreeing with him and reminding viewers that this country is a right of center country (NOT).
I can't believe these supposed "scholars" would repeat such ill informed and easily debunked nonsense.
Joe Lieberman is a lost man. Because of his huge ego he actually believes the Republicans like and respect him but in reality they are just tolerating him as long as he is useful to them. Like the Democrats, the Republicans recognize that it's one thing to change parties but it's another to deliberately go out of your way to dishonestly attack your former friends. The Republicans are under no illusions about Senator Lieberman. They know that he is a scurrilous self promoter of the worst kind who will turn on his friends whenever it is to his advantage. So while they embrace him for the moment they will never truly trust him. And when the Republicans finally cast him aside Senator Lieberman will find himself where all dishonorable men find themselves - alone. And that is as it should be.
