Sadly, this is so true. So many of our "journalists" today are taking money under false pretense. They pretend to be journalists and too many Americans pretend right along with them.
Glenn, it's absolutely mind boggling that these people refuse to face up to their hypocrisy.
When Elise Keppler of Human Rights Watch said the following about the Taylor prosecution I immediately thought about how our "beltway aristocrats" just can't seem to grasp this simple concept when it comes to our homegrown war criminals.
"This whole process has sent a message that when it comes to the most serious crimes, there cannot be impunity," she said. "Without a penalty that fits the gravity of the crime, it risks sending a message that these crimes will be tolerated."
Because our "aristocrats" will probably be successful in their campaign to make sure that Bush officials are not held accountable, one day we might just see someone from Iraq or Afghanistan hunting down Bush war criminals like the Mossad did with Nazi war criminals. Of course should that happen our aristocrats will probably forget all about how they supported hunting Nazis and just call the new war criminal hunters, terrorists.
I ran across an article critical of the media's response to the Bush administration's crimes, from of all places, the John Birch Society. I just posted it in the comments section of the Ruth Marcus article that Glenn referenced in this post. They too single out Ms. Marcus for her writing. I guess now Ms. Marcus won't be able to pretend that only those on the left care about this issue.
Ooops...I forgot to post a link to the Birch Society article.

The Birch Society Article is surprisingly spot on. I find that to be encouraging.

Kitt - I was encouraged as well. I'm really sick of people like Ruth Marcus trying to downplay the outcry in this country about holding the Bush administration war criminals accountable by constantly pretending that it's only the "left" who cares about this issue so everyone else should ignore it. I make it a point whenever I can to post links to as many right leaning articles critical of the Bush torture regime as I can just so that people know that it's not a political issue reserved for lefties. I feel when you do this it's not as easy for them to fool people who might not be up to speed on this issue. I hope others will start doing this or continue doing it if they are already doing so. I think it makes a real difference.
The JBS has been against the war in Iraq from the outset, as well as against the Patriot Act, torture, etc., etc. They may be wacky about some stuff, but they've been very righteous on these issues. Hard to imagine a world in which Jane Hamsher agrees with John Birch Soc., but there you have it -- strange bedfellows, indeed.

Hi Svensker...I didn't know this about them until I ran across this article today. Evidently I missed this if it was posted on Firedoglake but I'm not surprised that Jane found out about it before I did!
I'd love to see a list of all of the people on the right and in the center that have written pieces critical of the Bush war criminals. I'm familiar with Bruce Fein, the Cato Institute and a few others but I'd really like to see more of them.
After reading Glenn's featured article on Salon today I marveled at how much we appreciate what Glenn has done for all of us who are so concerned with the sorry state of our nation. I then went to the Washington Post and noticed a section where the Post is asking it's readers to submit the name of a person who we feel was the best leader in 2008. This is what I posted and I mean every word of it:
PMORLAN1 :
I'd like to nominate Glenn Greenwald of Salon.com.
I think Mr. Greenwald has provided a much needed voice for the many Americans appalled by the assault on the rule of law by the Bush administration and the complete abdication of the Congress to hold this administration accountable for their actions. His spot-on commentary about our current mainstream media's obsession with trivial stories in the midst of such grand scale lawlessness provides an island of sanity for millions of us.
Mr. Greenwald is indeed a tireless leader that has enabled people from the right, left and center of the political spectrum to believe again that there are still people in this country willing to protect and defend our Constitution.
In our family we are so grateful that we found Mr. Greenwald and even more grateful that he so eloquently represents our thinking in these very troubled times. What a pity that the Washington Post continues to rely on columnists like Broder and Marcus who are more concerned with pleasing the people in power then they are in penning original thinking pieces about the events of the day as Greenwald does.
Thank you Mr. Greenwald for all that you do.

Thanks Glenn for giving us this good news. I just hope Obama sticks by her when our lawless beltway community goes after her.
