More on 2005 anthrax incident

Nervousness at Press Conference

I just caught the tail end of today's anthrax press conference on cspan. Jeffrey Taylor, U.S. Atty for the District of Columbia is sweating profusely in the press conference, as is Alexander Lazaroff, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Chief Inspector. No one that I saw in the audience was sweating so evidently it probably wasn't the room temperature.

Lots of questions

Taylor described Ivins as "a prolific letter-writer," who often sent mail under assumed names and from post office boxes. Taylor said Ivins mailed more than 68 letters to Congress and media organizations alone, the two targets of the deadly letters sent through the mail.

Because a lot of us send letters to Congress and the media and we aren't the anthrax mailer I'd love to know what was in Ivin's letters. Perhaps using an assumed name was his way of being able to criticize without placing his career in jeopardy. For instance, a lot of people on the internet use assumed names to write critical commentary that might jeopardize their jobs if they were to use their own names.

Did his letters make sense? Were they rambling, threatening letters or were they whistleblower type letters? Which people in Congress and the media received these letters? Could he possibly have mailed hard copy letters so that it would be harder for the Bush spies in NSA to link them to him using their electronic surveilance? Were the letters hand written or typed? If handwritten perhaps we could check the handwriting against the anthrax mailings. Were there more than 68 letters and the FBI is only giving us partial info? I think there are a lot of questions still remaining to be answered on just this one tidbit from the FBI.

What did Ivin's say?

The story below is from the Frederick News-Post's website. I hope others are checking their websites to see if they have comments from Ivin's under these other names. It would be interesting to read his comments.

Bruce Ivins may have read and shared his comments about articles on The Frederick News-Post's website.

Ivins was the FBI's prime suspect in the 2001 anthrax mailings, which killed five people and injured 17 others just weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Search warrants, among the documents unsealed Wednesday by the U.S. District Court, listed email accounts Ivins had created, including goldenphoenix111@hotmail.com, kingbadger7@aol.com and jimmyflathead@yahoo.com.

A Class Act

In the middle of celebrating my birthday on Saturday I heard the news about Paul Newman's death. And while we continued to celebrate my special day I couldn't help thinking about Mr. Newman off and on throughout the day. He was such a class act from the roles he played in the movies to his racing career and philantropic work. And even though I don't know his family I send my best wishes to them because if I'm missing him without even knowing him they must be devastated by his passing. I only hope the words of some of his many fans will comfort them.

Adios Paul and thanks for making our world a little better.

I couldn't post a comment about Paul Newman without humming the Plastic Jesus tune from the movie Cool Hand Luke, so here are the words for all you Newman fans to hum.

I don't care if it rains or freezes,

As long as I got my plastic Jesus

Sittin' on the dashboard of my car.

Comes in colors pink and pleasant,

Glows in the dark cause he's iridescent

Take him with you when you travel far.

Get yourself a sweet Madonna

Dressed in rhinestones sittin' on a

Pedestal of abalone shell.

Going ninety I ain't scary

Cause I got the Virgin Mary

Assurin' me that I won't go to Hell.

Stating the Obvious

Glenn, thanks again for stating the obvious. It's pretty clear from your conversations with Professor Kerr that he's either still in denial about his own culpability in enabling the Bush administration to trash our Constitution over the last 8 years or he knows what he did was wrong and he's hoping to use smoke & mirrors to deflect attention away from his own moral failings.

I have a feeling that when this administration is finally gone from the White house that many, many more people like Kerr will try to downplay or deny their own actions. I'm glad that we have someone like you to call them on it when they do.

Great Summary

Glenn, thanks for reminding us about the true lay of the land in Washington and why all of us must continue to press the Congress and President Obama to do the right thing.

So when are you going to be a guest on Rachel's show?
