Original article: Chris Matthews is right

Right on Target Glenn

Thanks Glenn. You give voice to our frustration as well.

I'm sick to death of the media not even bothering to include my candidate (John Edwards) in most of the coverage. Excluding Edwards in the coverage sends a loud and clear message to voters that they better not vote for him because the media's already made it's decision to write him out of the narrative. It doesn't matter that we've only had two contests in the election and he came in 2nd in one of them, they've decided he's out.

We lost power at our house last night from 8 p.m. until approx. 11:30 p.m. so we didn't get to see Matthews face as the results came in. We did, however, get power in time to catch Brokow scolding Matthews and the rest of the media(it was great!).

Because of the power outage we had to listen to the results through a battery operated radio. Fortunately for us, we thought, NPR would save the day and let us at least know how our candidate did. WRONG. From 8 p.m. until approx. 10:40 p.m. NPR never mentioned the results for our candidate except to say that he was in a "distant" third. We were left to guess what they meant by a distant third. As you can imagine we did quite a bit of yelling at our radio instead of our usual yelling at the TV.

I've actually spent more time in this campaign pleading and/or berating the media to include coverage about my candidate than I have in actually campaigning for my guy. This is so wrong. And, as the brief rush Hillary out the door press moment should tell us, no candidate is safe from this press manipulation. The media could decide at any moment to write out any one of our candidates. We all must come together and do something about this media interference and soon!

Original article: Kerry to endorse Obama

Gore be Bold

I hope Al Gore endorses Edwards.

Edwards is closer to Gore on the issue of global warming so Al could make a principled endorsement rather than just a political endorsement like Kerry did. Another reason to endorse Edwards is that it would probably give Gore great satisfaction to stick his finger in the eye of the national media who treated Gore so shabbily in 2000 just like they are doing to Edwards in 2008. Besides who wants to just jump on the bandwagon of Obama or Clinton. How boring would that be.

Be Bold Al, Endorse Edwards

This Election Contest has Already Turned Into a Debate about Race & Gender

"John Edwards is, of course, still in the mix, but it is a telling symbol of change that the white male is running third."

You're right, Walter, it is a telling symbol. However, I think the problem with this election is that too many people are voting for symbols, when they should be voting for the best candidate.

This contest has been framed from the get go as a contest between Obama & Hillary because of the obvious historic change her gender and his race represent. We'd all like to break down those barriers but unfortunately, in this case, the frame about having a historic oppportunity to choose a woman or an African-American has tricked a lot of Democrats into believing that they MUST support one or the other, regardless of whether they have the best policies or the best chance to win in November.

In addition to being a historic choice between a woman and an African American man there is yet another reason why this election is continuously framed using this false choice. It was framed this way to distract all of us from seeing that there is a third candidate who also offers historic change. Unlike Hillary & Obama, Edwards change isn't what you see on the outside, it's the policies he carries on the inside. His very real challenge to the stranglehold that special interests have on our country has made him quite few powerful enemies. We've all seen how Edwards has been treated by the media and the Party insiders in this election. They are very worried about losing their "place" in society when Edwards shuts down their cushy operation that sucks the life out of the little guys.

I bet the corporate elite are breathing a sigh of relief as they watch us push aside the white guy in the contest, who actually challenges the status quo more than the woman or African-American in the contest, in favor of the two candidates who would continue the corporate white male policies that hurt so many women and African-Americans.

Are we so blinded by our guilt over race and gender that we would cut our own throats just to prove we aren't racist or sexist? We need to wake up and look at what we are doing? We've got to stop following the media narrative and have a real, honest discussion about where each of these candidates will take our country. We do have a historic choice to make in this election so let's not make a historic blunder by following the media narrative. And may I remind everyone that symbols aren't always what their cracked up to be. Instead of having a Thurgood Marshall on the Supreme Court we now have a Clarence Thomas sitting on the Supreme Court. We can't afford to vote for symbols alone, we must vote for what our candidates will do once they are in office.
