Nancy Pelosi Shows Up in Louisville, Ky Yesterday

I noticed the following story in my local newspaper today.

Yarmuth, Pelosi tour Ford plant before campaign stop

Talks with officials focus on industry

By Deborah Yetter • dyetter@courier-journal.com • June 22, 2008

Gee, isn't it funny that the day after my representative, John Yarmuth, totally changes his previous position on FISA by voting with Pelosi that she miraculously shows up to help him campaign?

The article never mentions the FISA vote so I called the reporter and left a message for her to find out if she asked Pelosi and Yarmuth if her visit had anything to do with the FISA vote and if she didn't whether she would be writing a follow-up piece to let us know. I'll let you guys know if she calls me back tomorrow.

My Comment About the Pelosi/Yarmuth Story

,blockquote>My local paper does have a place for readers to comment on stories so I posted this about the Pelosi/Yarmuth story. Unfortunately I was the only person who brought this up (at least so far).

Let's see 293 House members , 105 of which were Democrats, voted on Friday to pass the Bush backed FISA bill which eviscerates our 4th amendment rights and provides immunity for the telecoms who helped Bush illegally spy on all of us. Among the 105 Democratic traitors was none other than our own John Yarmuth. Is it any wonder then why Nancy Pelosi miraculously shows up in Louisville the day after that vote to assist Mr. Yarmuth with his campaign?

Thanks Mr. Yarmuth for selling out the American people just so you could get the Democratic leadership to help you get re-elected.. You know the sad thing is that had you just done your job of defending the Constitution instead of imitating Ann Northup's ethics, you would have been a shoo in to get re-elected. Now...who knows.

Comment to Me Again

Me Again, I understand where you're coming from because I too am thoroughly disgusted by what has happened. Just a moment ago I posted the following comment on Firedoglake:

When your party no longer supports the Constitution it’s time to either fight them tooth and nail or find another party. I choose to fight them tooth and nail and to change my voter affiliation to Independent until my Party finds it’s soul again.

In my opinion the time to form another party is not in the middle of a presidential election. Let's face the facts that at this late date we are stuck with Obama or McCain. What we have to focus on now is picking our battles wisely and doing our best to push Obama into doing the right thing. We now know that FISA is a done deal and there isn't much more we can do about it. What we can do is at least demand that we get something in return for this unforgivable behavior. The Democrats know that they have a huge problem on their left flank so while we are fighting them make them give us concessions on other issues. We also need to do as Glenn and others have already set up - make those who caved in on our rights in the House & Senate pay a heavy price for their treachery. We need to make examples out of as many of them as we can.

We don't have to let any of them get away with what they've done we just need to make sure that we don't cut off our nose to spite our face. Despite Obama's totally unacceptable behavior his choice of judges will at least be marginally better than McCains. We can't afford to have more Scalia's, Roberts, Thomas & Alito's on the Court. The Democratic leadership may have bested us in this battle but the war goes on. Let's learn from what happened and plan our strategy of how to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

Response to Blunderdog

Blunderdog, I can't speak for anyone other than myself about why change to Independent but in my case I'm changing my voter affiliation so that it will show up in the state records. I'm hoping that enough Dems will do this so that the MSM will actually report that massive numbers of Dems have changed to Independent (they covered this in the past when Dems changed to Republicans). I know it's a lot to hope that the media would actually dig further to find that we are changing to Independent because of the FISA vote but one never knows. I guess it's just another way for me to protest what has happened and to put the Dems on notice that if they want to trash the Constitution then they run the risk of losing longtime supporters. If enough people did this it would certainly rattle their cages at the prospect of losing us for good.

My state of Kentucky is not an open primary state, however, in the event that in the next election there is a real choice among the Dem. candidates I can always change my registration back to Democrat.
