This is not surprising, despite Edward's lack of endorsement.
[Read the article: Obama releases statement on Edwards' exit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama is a smart guy and a savvy politician. He is being a gracious winner while simultaneously courting Edwards supporters (like me). Obama is keeping it positive and sunny, which is more attractive than negative and nasty (hint, Bill).
Having lost my candidate and having mulled over this possibility, I'm going to vote for Obama despite my reservations about his conservative stances on issues like health care and Social Security.
And methinks, he should pick a woman as a running mate. Sibelius?

Real food, cheap and easy
[Read the article: Is there such a thing as too much folic acid?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A pound of dried peas will cost you two dollars or less. The rest of the pea soup ingredients, including bread, will cost less than 5 dollars. That's enough food for a meal for two people. Good food does not cost that much to make.
Here's the lowdown on how good dried peas are for you: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=55

@Elle Driver
[Read the article: Obama releases statement on Edwards' exit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Tarantino fan, eh?
Yes, Edwards could be Obama's running mate. No legal impediments there.
-
Yes Brightstar, it's women's fault once again.
[Read the article: Sperm on, sperm off]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There were no tort lawsuits or class actions based on design defects prior to breast implants. It is those damned women who tempt us so, but deny us what we so desperately need, who are to blame.

Excellent! Bring on the miniskirts and bullet bras.
[Read the article: Feminism: Five minutes ago?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hey Giggles, fetch me my slippers and a martini!
It's good to be king...

ChrisSinnard, where's your evidence?
[Read the article: Edwards bows out, but stays on message on the way]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You call Edwards a "pseudo-populist," but based on what? The fact that he lives in a big house? Sorry, that's not enough to disqualify someone's populism.
-
Maybe Edwards wants to be VP and is just hedging his bets.
[Read the article: Obama releases statement on Edwards' exit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Maybe he wants to be Veep after all. Or maybe he wants to be the Attorney General. Why make your potential boss/benefactor angry at you by endorsing their opponent?

Or American sex slaves, Gordon
[Read the article: Global news roundup]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You know about sex slaves in Israel. So do I. I don't know about you, but I learned about it through newspapers and internet news sites. I learned about it through the media, in other words. The media has, and does report about sex slaves in Europe and Asia and Africa.
The media even report about sex slaves in this country, even if, as with the current story, the media reported about sex slaves in Iran.
But of all the nations that have sex slaves, you chose Israel to make your point about reporting on Iran. Why is that, Gordon?

Frogs and scorpions.
[Read the article: There's nothing the matter with Kansas]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama is the frog who would bridge the divide by going for a ride on the back of a Republican scorpion named McCain, or perhaps Romney.
Obama will utter soothing sounds about reconciliation and bipartisanship, and the McCain/Romney scorpion will smile and stab him with its stinger. The scorpion has its agenda, and it includes eating a frog. I hope Obama realizes this and reaches for the bug spray instead.

Dear Mr. Nader, if you run...how can I put this delicately.
[Read the article: President Nader? Maybe third time's the charm]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Go to hell.

Dear Lowering the Bar
[Read the article: I'm a high-school dropout in law school and I feel like an impostor!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I say this nicely: don't be an idiot. First of all, they accepted you into law school, so they felt you had the necessary background to enter their school. Second, at one point or another most if not all law students (as I once was) feel like impostors, fakes, frauds. Third, many law students do not pass the bar the first time. They might need to take it two or three times. So what? You do what you have to do. It took my wife 3 times to pass the NY State Bar, and now she is one of the best litigators I have ever met.
You'll find that there are brilliant lawyers and stupid lawyers, menschs and schmucks. You'll also find that many a lawyer, whether in a firm or elsewhere, still finds himself or herself thinking, "I'm a fraud!"
In other words, do yourself a tremendous favor and stop worrying. Study hard, pass that damn bar exam no matter how many times you need to take it, and move on. You'll be fine.

The banality of evil
[Read the article: Mukasey says waterboarding still not "concrete situation"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Listening to Mr. Mukasey's dry, emotionless testimony as to why torture really isn't torture, and if it is, it's still necessary, brought to mind Hannah Arendt's observation on the banality of evil.
The evildoers are just madmen cackling in caves. They're also upright, upstanding citizens, well-dressed and well-mannered, who nevertheless advocate the worst kind of evil in the gentlest of tones.

Rape is a crime of violence, and Tyson is a creep.
[Read the article: South Africa gets an earful about Mike Tyson's visit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Rape is a crime of violence, and whether the forcible penetration of person is done with a man's penis or a broomstick, the motivation is of a sick and twisted nature, with any sexual impetus present merely secondary to the need to dominate and abuse.
As for Tyson, despite his athletic achievements, he is still a violent lowlife with history of attacking both men and women. I cannot understand why any dignitary would want to share space with him.

And about those annoying ads on Salon.
[Read the article: South Africa gets an earful about Mike Tyson's visit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I despise any internet advertisement that pushes away what I'm reading, or that blinks rapidly to get my attention but instead makes me want to put my fist through the monitor. Salon, please do away with these modern monstrosities.

The Philipines is a shithole.
[Read the article: An anti-birth-control dystopia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This oh-so Catholic country has cockfighting as its national sport. They are the armpit of the world.
Oh yeah, their abortion laws suck, too.

@Anonymous
[Read the article: An anti-birth-control dystopia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm a liberal elitist for being opposed to cruelty to animals?
In other words, conservatives support cruelty to animals?

"Erections and Monsters." Penisaurus?
[Read the article: South Africa gets an earful about Mike Tyson's visit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Canuckistan Bob, I'm no defender of Mike Tyson the citizen, but I feel compelled to defend him as a boxer. He's not a stupid man, and he did study the great boxers of the past. Yes, he was aggressive to a fault and would make the maximum use of his brute strength, e.g., trying to break his opponents in the clinch, but we must give the man his due as a boxer. He got to the top on discipline and talent and brawn and intelligence. Rising to the top of your field, even in so dirty a field on boxing, is no easy task.
As for erections during hangings, or before them, or whether women also have sexual responses in unlikely situations: let's leave that for another day. Personally, when discussing rape, I feel that over-intellectualizing the subject is unseemly.
