  • All of this is really sickening.

[Read the article: Update: Michelle Obama disagrees with me]

Can we not have a Presidential election that does not sink into the mud? There are extremely serious problems facing this nation and the world. Life or death problems. No one, including we priveleged readers of Salon, is immune from the horrors which are devastating lives around the globe. We can easily be next; that is, we could die from violence or disease or a flood.

The President of the United States is in a unique position to actually do something to help the world, and goddamn it, here we are again yammering about skin color and gender, and who is a bitch, and who is not black enough. STOP IT!

You know, all of this is just we Democrats squabbling and insulting amongst ourselves, and it's already ugly as sin. Just wait until we have a nominee and the Republicans get their turn. We're in for bad times.

Get your act together, Fellowship, because Mordor is coming.

Did you really once call yourself "Emmanuel Kunt"? That is really, really sad.

Greeneyekzin called you a "schande fur die Goyim." To that I would add that you are what my late grandmother would call a "nebbish."

As with Thrasher and some of the other truly obnoxious trolls here, there is no good to respond to you again.

Congratulations symbol boy, you gave me a good reason to respond to you.

Whoops, you never called yourself "Emmanuel Kunt." I got a letter wrong. To quote from one of your posts, "And in the past, when I have posted using other pseudonyms, the Broadsheet Moderators chose to find my pseudonyms so offensive (Immanuel Kunt for example)."

Whatever you call yourself, you're just a nebbish.

I don't think you can top yourself, so this is goodbye, and good luck, because you need it.

Okay, we disagree, but then, we disagreed about your consumption of pigs, too. :)

We disagree even more in that I consider "douchebag," too goofy to even approach the level of "nigger" or "cunt," especially when said properly, which is with a comically low and drawn out voice.

You're right about the link between misogyny and homophobia. I've already stated that though I'm an Edwards supporter, if it comes down to Clinton or Obama, I want Clinton to win because as bad as racism is, this country's misogyny and macho identity has led to even worse problems. A woman President can do a lot to end this stupidity.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry over that one, bro.

I myself go for "poom poom" or "that thang," but then, the missus and I are as silly as any other couple.

    That's it for tonight. Cheers!

  • Is anyone doing enough about anything?

[Read the article: Honor killings and Islam]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm no fan of religion, and I'm strongly opposed to the conservative strain of patriarchal religions like Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Of late, Islam has been particularly obnoxious.

But at some point it's only fair to ask, what more would people have progressive Muslims do about honor killings, FGM, and other regressive and terrible practices? Should they leave their jobs, sell all of their possessions, and work days and nights to end them? Should they grab rifles and overthrow the most repressive Muslim governments and tribal councils? These people have lives, just like us.

If we criticize Western Muslims for not doing enough, then what of we Americans and the problems in our own nation? Until tell years ago, the Catholic church turned a blind eye to molestation by its priests. However, it goes beyond religion. Are we doing enough to stop rape? Rape happens much more frequently than honor killings. What about child abuse, or homelessness, or crumbling schools in a land where Wall Street CEO's cash out with tens or hundreds of millions after ruining their companies, and half-naked celebrities earn more in one month than teachers do in a year?

Sexism and misogyny underlie honor killings, FGM, rape, and many other ills. Greed and indifference underlie poverty and homelessness and the phenomenon of teachers buying chalk with their own funds. If we're serious about making a better world, we need to glority education and educators and enact laws which promote social and economic justice.

Given the history of the world, however, I expect global warming and other mega disasters to do us in before we change.

  • Stallone was promoting "Rambo" on the Michael Savage show.

Yesterday Sylvester Stallone chatted with the notorious hatemongering radio host, Michael Savage, while promoting "Rambo."

Any lingering respect and good feelings I might have had for Stallone are gone. The hell with him.

Keep feeling all good about your place in society. Being 20-something is a wonderful time. Like the saying goes, don't let the bastards get you down.

It is wise to remember that the world is still full of mean and outright dangerous people. Have fun, live your life, but you might want to do and I do as keep some pepper spray in your pocket (says the 40-something guy).

Obama is too smart to make his candidacy about black identity. I also think that he sincerely does not want it to be about that, regardless of political calculations. The man is genuine in that he is an idealistic Democratic candidate who happens to be black, and not vice versa.

Rest assured, though, that if Obama does win the Repugs will make this a race about RACE, and they'll use every dirty trick in the book to do it. It will be ugly, and the Obama campaign and we Democrats better prepare for it now.

  • Looks likea blowout for Obama.

    Congratulations to the Obama campaign.

I'm still hoping for Edwards, but it ain't looking likely now.

Some letter writers have suggested Edwards for attorney general. Sounds good to me, although Veep or Secretary of Labor or even a Supreme Court Justice would also suffice.

Spare us the sexist and homophobic language, okay? If you don't like Hillary Clinton, voice your concerns without that juvenile stuff.
