  • Republicans are disgusting human beings.

Sorry if you're a Republican who considers himself or herself a good and decent person -- you're not. The GOP is the party of hate. They operate on the level of elementary school bullies and appeal to, and attract, the very worst in humanity. Belonging to today's GOP is like belonging to the Nazi party of the 1930's: if you're a member, you're a scumbag, no matter how nice you are to children and small animals.

Or whoever you are, Mr. Gender Symbols. Since you've shown up (or maybe since you've changed your handle?), you've posted the usual misogynistic dreck that women-hating losers regulary post to Broadsheet. You just hate Broadsheet and feminism, and yet you come back here day after day to...what? Post your misogynistic bullshit.

Those women in Mexico City are resorting to segregated buses because of dickless jackasses like you.

  • Fox News' John Gibson (closeted gay) has already mocked Heath Ledger's death.

[Read the article: Remembering Heath Ledger]

You just knew it was only a matter of time before the rightwing scumbags said something nasty about Mr. Ledger because he played a gay man in "Brokeback Mountain." ThinkProgress.org has all the sordid details of John -- Mr. Oh So Christian -- Gibson mocking the man's death on his radio show.

Maybe the group's acronym, C.U.N.T., is a clue as to why some of us suspect them of misogyny.

    What do you think?

    Mr. Gender Symbols:

It's called critical thinking, bub. I did not call Republicans Nazis. I made an analogy: belonging to today's Republican party is LIKE belonging to the Nazi party in the 1930's, in that you cannot divorce yourself from the party, with which you affiliate. In this case, both the Nazi party and the GOP are parties of hatred, though by saying that, I am not saying they are the same. Understand?

Not only are you misogynistic, but you are obtuse. Actually, the two often go together.

  • To Juliebird: about that red paint and PETA

[Read the article: The C-word as a political tool]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The stories of PETA members throwing red paint on fur coats is as apocryphal as those of anti-Vietnam War protesters spitting on returning vets. While both acts may have happened, it was rare, but it made for dramatic storytelling and worked its way into folklore. If people did throw paint on fur coats, it probably happened in England, where the anti-fur and anti-fox hunting movements had as much to do with class conflict as they did with cruelty to animals.

That said, I'm not sure what if anything would be an effective tactic against an idiot wearing one of those C**T shirts. When you think about it, any nitwit would do so is probably beyond hope.

It does seem like one of the troll anonymice decided to give himself a screen name after all, though the logic of the symbols make sense only to him (if that). He does talk about the "magical peace ray" which you women can shoot out of your bodies, and we have seen that before on this board.

Same misanthropic troll, different label. So it goes.

It's too bad that the Democrat with the most to offer this nation is, alas, not the best candidate. I just hope that if Edwards is not the nominee, the next President uses him in the most effective way -- perhaps Secretary of Labor?

The silver lining is that our nation will likely have either its first female or black President, and that will be a great thing. Here's hoping they are willing to fight, and beat, the plutocracy as Edwards would have.

  • This movie is another example of the hypocrisy of the MPAA.

    [Read the article: "Rambo"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The only reason this movie got an R, despite its abundance of extremely gorey effects, is because it's a big budget Stallone movie. A small independent film with this much gore would be lucky to get an X rating.

Anyway, if this is the last Rambo, let it be an omen of the end of the Reagan/Bush/Bush era. Welcome back, Alan Alda.

  • There is no excuse for calling a woman a "cunt."

[Read the article: More ways to call Hillary Clinton the C-Word ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm revolted by the people here who are defending the use of this slur against women. It is exactly like calling a black person a "nigger," or a Jew (as I am) a "kike," or a gay man a "faggot," or so on. Words have meaning, and there is no doubt that these particular slurs are meant as expressions of hate of the worst sort.

Some letter writers here have pointed out that just as black people have attempted to subvert the slur "nigger" by taking it as their own, women should do the same with the word "cunt." However, two things. First, plenty of black people are appalled that other blacks use that word and are actively trying to discourage its use, and second, if you're not black and you call a black person that word, be ready for a less than friendly response. Just like members of ethnic groups can mock themselves but non-members can't, neither can people from other groups use slurs without consequence.

The idiot in the photo wearing the "I love country music" shirt represents the worst, most base traits of people. Ignorance, intolerance, and indifference. In this country, those are traits of the rightwing. The right, as embodied by the GOP, exploits the worst in people for their own purposes. If you look back at the history of talk radio, for example, you'll find that from Father Coughlin through Rush Limbaugh, the radio hatemongers have been rightwingers. If fascism ever comes to this country, it will be their fans, and idiots like that guy with the shirt, who comprise the new shock troops.

The GOP's base is in the South, so it is an unfortunate coincidence that country music fans are conflated with the most intolerant sectors of our society. Or, maybe it's not a coincidence. That is a subject for another day.
