What a wretched gang of candidates.
[Read the article: Live blogging the GOP debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My wife and I decided to watch tonight's Repug debate, something we've not done all this campaign season. What a horror show! Repugs, listen up: Ronald Reagan is dead and buried and burning in Hell. The Reagan era is 20 years-old. It's over and done with, thank goodness!
I can understand why many Repugs favor Ron Paul, as he is the only candid and grown-up candidate in the bunch. It's too bad he's a loony libertarian.
McCain is too militaristic and way, way past his prime. Romney is a foul tool (nice hair, though, but my wife instantly pointed out that he has his eyebrows waxed). Thompson is a prunefaced Reagan wannabe. Guiliani is another bloodthirsty nut who ought to be pursuing a career as the lead character in a remake of Nosferatu. Huckabee is a nice guy one second, and religious nut invoking the gates of hell the next. Am I missing anyone? Does it matter? They're ALL losers.
As for the Faux News debate moderators: Brit Hume is a bad joke, asking Ron Paul about some of his wackiest supporters' allegations of a 9-11 cover-up. Kudos to Paul for smacking that fool down. Again, it's a shame Paul is a loony libertarian with Bircher roots. Chris Wallace needs to be reminded that the shoe polish goes on his shoes, not his head. And who was the skinny dude with the big ears? Looked like Barney Fife's love child. We turned off the debate when the black guy with the Juicy Fruit colored tie (with the really nice knot, however) finally got his turn to ask a question.
Is this really the best the GOP can offer up? A bunch of has-beens and never-wills invoking the wretched memory of Reagan? I'm beginning to believe the hype that the GOP is on its way to extinction like the Whigs. If so, good riddance!

Bebop-O
[Read the article: Tom the Dancing Bug]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Did I mention that the restaurant was at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Calvert Street? I do now recall one time that another waiter (not I) hocked a loogie into a customer's linguine. The waiter complained about the customer's incessant freestyle patter.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
P.S. Ah, Dorian. She had a great set of cans. Too bad she sent them in for recycling.

Well, since Reagan and 9/11 were both terrible disasters for the nation, I'd say yes.
[Read the article: Is Ronald Reagan the new 9/11?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Except to be chronologically accurate, we ought to state that 9/11 is the new Reagan.
Seriously, watching all those old white men Repugs harken back 20 years to the reign of the Great Miscommunicator had me thinking that there is no way hell the Democrats are going to lose in 2008.

That's why it's tempting to vote for her.
[Read the article: Clinton's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If Edwards fails to make it to Maryland, my home state, I just might vote for Clinton. Let's break the goddamn gender barrier for the Presidency already so we can move beyond all the B.S.
-
All this sexist sh*t is only inspiring me to vote for Clinton.
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm backing Edwards, but I think Obama and Clinton would also make fine Presidents, as would Dodd and Biden and Richardson and Kucinich had they stayed in/had a prayer of a chance of getting the nomination. We Democrats are blessed with a great roster of candidates; the Repugs are cursed with Worse and Worser.
However, given all the sexist garbage and outright hatred being thrown against Clinton, I am damn tempted to vote for her instead of Obama, my current #2 choice, if Edwards doesn't survive to the Maryland primaries where I vote. Sexism and misogyny are a plague in this world, and America's macho bullsh*t, John Wayne mythos has held us back in too many ways. We need a woman President, and Clinton is both qualified and battle hardened. Hell, they way things are going, I might vote for her regardless of where Edwards is.

I'll bet Barr was drunk.
[Read the article: Slamming Obama and Winfrey to praise Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That sounds like the ravings of a drunk let loose on her keyboard.
As for Anne Rice: okay, fine. Her most ardent fans might be swayed. Besides, there's much to like about a Clinton-Obama ticket (or vice versa, though that's far less likely). Obama is young enough to serve 8 years as a Veep, and then serve 8 years as President. 16 years of a female and black Presidency would be just fine with me.

Payback shmayback, Anon.
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Barack Obama does not strike me as an angry man, which is one of his more appealing qualities. On the other hand, if he does win -- and who knows, he just might -- I hope he abandons this "let's all be friends" nonsense and goes after the Repug crooks who have blatantly violated the Constitution and our domestic and international laws. Start with that bastard Rumsfeld, who has done so much to dirty our nation's reputation by embracing torture as a legitimate tool. Rumsfeld belongs in prison.

Giant Flying Spaghetti Monster help me, I agree with Thrasher on this.
[Read the article: How bashing Hillary backfired]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Setting up one oppression against another is a loser's game. We Jews have suffered terribly for millenia, with the Holocaust being the most horrible instance. Black Africans suffered terribly in the slave trade, from the Middle Passage through slavery and beyond. Both forms of oppression were evil. Let's just call it quits.
I don't care if the term "Holocaust" is used by non-Jews who have suffered collectively and terribly. In fact, I welcome it. It recognizes the common humanity of those involved, and the tragic scope of the crimes against them.
One thing I do know: throughout human history, every group has suffered at the hands of every other group, and non-human animals have and still suffer horribly at the hands of humans. I agree with the Dalai Lama when he said: Compassion is my religion. Really, that's all this world needs.
