Frank and open discussions about race...and other myths.

Well KStone, it's been swell, but now the swelling's gone down. You’ve made it clear that it’s okay to discuss race, but not in any way that might discomfort you. The elephant in the room which white people aren’t allowed to talk about, according to you, is the dysfunction afflicting poor black Americans and, particularly, how some parts of black culture actually contribute to that dysfunction. I can talk all I want about the evil effects of slavery, Jim Crow, and institutional racism by whites against blacks, and you’ll smile and cheer me on, but heaven forbid I touch that third rail which only black people are allowed to talk about. You know exactly what I mean.

No problem. You can stew in your own juices. For company, I leave you with Thrasher the racist clown. Did you know that he’s a living legend and a black icon? (You didn’t know that? Don’t worry; nobody else does either).

From wedding vows to Presidential vows: why trust Thompson?

Kehn Thompson isn't running for office, so there's no call to criticize her. Fred, though, is another story. That picture of him and his daughter -- sorry, "wife" -- gave me the creeps. Beyond that, it's pretty obvious what it says about the guy.

The guy is rich and a celebrity, and he'd rather have a pretty young woman on his arm than the wife (wives?) he presumably loved enough to marry and exchange vows with.

Maybe I'm wrong and maybe it's love, and maybe George W. Bush really cares about Iraqi democracy. If I'm right, though, I wouldn't trust Thompson within 6 wrinkled inches of our Constitution.

Sauron the Moron

Salon writers, letter writers, and every other thinking person in this country need to just take a step back and realize that we are all on permanent outrage setting until January 2009.

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that George W. Bush does is either stupid, evil, or most frequently, stupid and evil. Once we accept that fully, we can take a breather.

I recommend a permanent Salon headline for all things Bush: "BUSH DOES YET ANOTHER STUPID AND EVIL THING." Think of it as the universal Bush headline.

Read John the riot act

LW, if you truly love your wife, and if you think she truly loves you but has a weakness for this guy John, do this: get John alone somewhere. Tell him to stay away from your wife. Tell him that you'll rip his balls off and shove them down his throat if he doesn't stay away from her. Scare him.

Do this where nobody else can hear you, so you can deny everything.

Violence is a crude tool, but effective. Threats of violence can be just as effective.

John is in the wrong, absolutely and completely. Don't feel bad about scaring the piss out of him. If you have a good friend, preferably big and scary, bring him along. Do this, and John will go away and pester someone else's wife.

Good luck, dude.

Goodbye and good riddance

John McCain has always been far more extreme in his views than the fawning press would have you think. His record -- perhaps until only very recently -- was strongly supported by groups like the Eagle Forum, Concerned Women for America, Christian Coalition, and even the John Birch Society.

You would also think that after the disgusting and racist attacks on McCain and his family by the Bush slime team in 2000, McCain would have remained a determined foe of Bush. But no, he sacrificed his dignity and self-respect by becoming a loyal Bushie.

Whatever charms McCain worked on the press -- and obviously, something clicked -- have thankfully not carried him to the top of the Republican heap (o' dung).

Original article: Women who run with the cows

Equal Opportunity Idiocy (and cruelty)

Great. Some women in Spain want to show the world that they can be as cruel and stupid as their men.

In the running of the bulls, I always root for the bulls. The more idiots they trample and gore, the better. In bullfights, I always cheer when I read of a matador getting hurt, and preferably killed. I have no pity at all for the people who engage in this disgusting ritual of cruelty to animals. My pity is only for the bulls who are tormented and killed for the sake of a twisted audience's pleasure.

Somegirls, I wish you were right...

...but I think you're wrong, at least based on this article and other stuff I've read. This seems to be a protest regarding the sexist nature of the running of the bulls, and not a protest against bullfighting itself.

No comparison between circumcision and FGM

I am vehemently opposed to involuntary circumcision, but there is absolutely no equivalence between that and female genital mutilation. The latter should be a felony everywhere.

As for Salon needing a "Dudesheet," sorry, but that's like saying that in the United States there should be an NAACP-style organization for white people. I.e., ridiculous, given the nature of the status quo.

Poking good natured fun?

I suppose that's one interpretation, and if it's what they're really doing, then it reflects pretty badly on them. The running of the bulls is part and parcel of the ultimate activity, which is the bloodsport of bullfighting. You don't "poke good natured fun" at atrocities. You condemn them.
