Recently I decided that I'm not voting for Obama under any circumstances. This is coming from a life-long Democrat in his 50's. I've knocked on doors in Wisconsin for McCarthy and McGovern, voted for Jessie Jackson in the primaries, worked my ass off in New Hampshire for Kerry.
Contradicting virtually every article on the subject I'm not a sweater-knitting old lady or a mouth-breathing blue collar worker. I'm male, college educated an a business owner. Don't the authors see how demeaning and dismissive it is to refer to Hillary supporters as simply old ladies or the the uninformed.
But enough about me...
Two weeks ago night I got a call from the Obama campaign asking me for money. I asked the person on the line to answer a simple question for me - "If he is against the war as he says he is, why did Senator Obama support and campaign for Lieberman instead of Ned Lamont in Connecticut?"
The person on the phone didn't have any answer (or very probably any idea of what I was talking about) and got her supervisor. I asked him the same question and he got VERY loud and agitated. He was really unintelligible but I did catch a few phrases - "Hillary was for the war..." and "it was long time ago...". It was quite an insulting rant. He was way up in my face. When he paused to catch a breath I said he wasn't answering my question. He started into more ranting, then abruptly stopped and said he hoped I had a good evening and hung up.
This isn't the first time I had been loudly harangued by an Obama supporter.
Also I recently got an email with a photo attachment from an acquaintance. It was a photo of Hillary in front of a sign. On the sign was the word COUNT. Her head was covering the letter "O". He thought this was hilarious. It wasn't. He's a very liberal, educated moveon.org type. Also a big big Obama supporter.
I really didn't have a candidate when this all started but in watching the debates and reading about Clinton and Obama I came to the conclusion that Clinton was smarter, would make better decisions and would better serve my War in Iraq and Healthcare concerns. Also I didn't find any evidence in Obama's actions/votes while acting as a Senator that would justify his (I believe) hugely inflated promises to people.
One small case in point - why in the world did Obama vote AGAINST putting a Federal ceiling of 30% on predatory credit card interest rates? I'm just asking.
What I've witnessed is a disgusting slime-ing of Hillary. You simply couldn't find anyone saying a positive thing about her or her ideas in the Media. In spite of that she won a majority of votes in the primary. And what's up with those Caucases?? They seem more like a college frat ritual to me than democracy. I believe Obama did very well in them.
Hillary voters are Democrats. That's true but the anger many, many people feel may change that.
Thought you should know.
After a long primary race I was highly skeptical of Candidate Obama. Nothing he has done since securing the nomination has changed my mind. Quite the opposite.
Why should we believe Obama has the courage to bring about the change he speaks of?
Recently his campaign have made a concerted effort to exclude Muslims from his campaign events.
He quickly flip flopped on the important FISA issue
He supported expanding the death penalty to non-lethal crimes.
He praises the right-wing Supreme Court's 5-4 decision to deny Washington DC's right to set its own regulations on handguns within city limits. Incidently, also supporting Republican judges that really are legislating from the bench in overturning the DC law.
He is the first candidate since Watergate to bow out of public financing of elections.
This on top of a short legislative record that is, nonetheless, filled with votes in favor of corporate interests and against people power. Need I mention his active support of Joe Lieberman over Ned Lamont in Connecticut?
Obama is a gifted speaker but I'd say his actions and policies fall way, way short. I want no part of his candidacy and certainly will not be voting for him.
This is just another in a long line of Obama "clarifications" (and in a remarkably short time). Maybe the strategy is to make so many policy changes that people will lose track. I find it interesting that BO would make this "clarification" the day before a long national holiday. To minimize the press coverage?
From BO's support of Joe Lieberman over Ned Lamont, to all of BO's supportive votes for the War while in office, to this latest whopper - I have no reason to doubt that we will still be in Iraq when the term of the next president is over. No matter who that is.
