  • Aloha and April Fools Day

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My husband and I were to take our return leg to Oahu on an Aloha airlines flight on 4/1, the day after they ceased all operations.

They announced it on the news on 3/30. Luckily, we were not depending on them to get back to the mainland, but boy, that was an inconsiderate and crappy way to inform your customers. While on hold with my cc company to dispute 1/2 the charge, the customer service rep was saying he's been handling Aloha calls all day and that people's weddings were being ruined, etc...

The joke on me was that I picked Aloha over Hawaiian airlines because I thought the older airline was to be more trusted.

    Happy April Fools!

And Patrick, can you please riddle me this? Why are there no clocks in airports, ever? It drives me nuts!!!

  • Greg in Fl's reasoning

...It's a totally probable conclusion. Perfectly reasonable, with a lot of faith thrown in.

That's the problem. The older women supporting Hillary are 'desperate'. Hillary needs their support. While Obama supporters sense this greater transcendence beyond the existing political paradigm that does us no favors.

Or perhaps, you can look at this same scenario a different way, a way that many women and men, have decided as well: that we've fallen for this hope, this faith every time, and it has disappointed greatly if not failed.

If this argument was a movie, it would be like 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Where Jimmy Stuart, the captivating earnest man, does his family right in the end; but he eeked it out by some great change in faith. And many people do want it to end this way and it is possible.

However, Democrats aren't Republicans and we don't fall into lock step. The cultish following that Reagan produced, do we really want to be like that? Reagan was a light-weight with tremendous charm. We made fun of him and his followers who never listened to us. BTW, what did he transform in the end?

And more so, Republicans are not like Democrats. Democrats politely disagree and more than not, go along with the more dominant and aggressive strategy to win out. They allowed Republicans to witch-hunt Clinton and even helped vote to impeach him based on preposterous grounds considering he was only lying about a personal sex affair, not national matters or the constitution. Yet they threw him to the wolves. These are the same people who publicly support Obama and tell Clinton to step out of the race. They eat their own and charge them with being against their ideals.

Between the self-defeating behavior Democrats are bound to fall into and the fierce meanness and arrested development of Republicans, I don't know who worries me more. So I don't act on faith for this very reason.

So don't think that Clinton supporters don't get this and don't have sophisticated thinking about why we are supporting who we are supporting. Perhaps we want to stop the foolishness and the wishful thinking for once and get shit done.

This isn't feminism, we just don't believe that Obama's candidacy will end like 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Time to stop putting our faith in one man who's going to provide bold change, er..., how many times have we pulled that lever?

BTW, her candidacy has also been a solid self-evident journey to many women about the struggles we continue with, and I am very grateful that Hillary is tough enough to take the hits she has and still smile. It's a gracious model for many women to keep progressing along.

  • Surprise surprise

What do you expect when your fellow Democrat Obama has attacked you for over a year calling you 'divisive', 'unprincipled' and 'willing to say anything to win'?

And then his supporters and the media, including Alex Kopplemen perpetuate that she is a liar but cannot bring up any specific examples of what she has lied about (other than the Bosnia sniper fire). Clinton is one of the most investigated politicians in US history because she was married to the GOP's target: Bill Clinton. And they found nothing on her. But fellow Democrats would like to treat her like she's guilty and perpetuate GOP talking points because they like Obama better.

Conveniently, the sins of the husband are the sins of the wife.

Talk about negative campaigning and smearing. These Democrats are absolutely shameful, and so is the media.

You know, these debates should be covered with a style by a non-political writer to give it some objectivity and originality. I vote that the next debate be covered by Heather Havrilesky.

I think Joan has been pretty even-handed and level-headed throughout this campaign. This article was written by Walter Shapiro. And yet many times, Joan Walsh has been demonized for her editorial contributions and position on Salon.com by LWs of this article.

To me, its pretty clear that Joan or Hillary aren't the issues. It's some serious transference-of-anger issues. I don't know if its authoritative, or contrarian, or condescending, or misogynistic, or racial or whatever issue. Its an issue and its just...plain...ridiculous. Somehow, Hillary and Joan, whatever the matter, whatever the conflation, it is triggered by these ideological supporters.

Good luck with that. And if Obama is not the nominee, may [some] god help you.
