Goldenboy makes same mistakes as Joe
[Read the article: Payback is a blast!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]again, Joan didn't compare Christians to Islamic Extremists.
I however will. Let's look at what Christians did to non-believers all the way up to the Nazi concentration camps. Burning witches at stakes? Centuries-long wars? Evil war-mongering pope kings who preyed on the poor to fund their lavish lifestyles? The Inquisition? Torture? And let's not forget the Christian president Bush who feels torture is OK by him.
Well Joan, unfortunately you hit a nerve. Isn't that always the case that when dealing with self-righteous people, turning the mirror reflection towards them doesn't cause the mirror to crack, but them. The fact that they cannot see themselves becoming the very thing they hate, makes them very dangerous indeed. Yet another reason to get them out of power.

No, Boren is out of hand
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As King plainly pointed out, the refs did not carry QB Dixon to the endzone. As another LW pointed out, Oregon commentators largely felt the refs were ruling against them during the game. But the ones against OK were the only aggregious ones because....why again? OK still had a chance to win it with a 44-yard field goal at the end of the game, and blew it. Oregon has won games with 57-yard field goal.
The Intant-Replay reviewer reports what he had to go by, but that remains in doubt because there are "reports" that add'l video was made available but not used? Who made these reports? How is it the reviewer is judged guilty and lying until proven innocent?
Every football team gets screwed by bad calls not going their way at least once a season. To make this an exception and use threats against the Pac-10 and whine, whine, whine, makes OK look ridiculous.

Conspiracy theory v. bungled investigations
[Read the article: Why are so many Americans still hoodwinked?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]>also believe there was someone on the grassy knoll, 9/11 was carried out by the USA, and that Bush said Iraq was connected to 9/11, and that Al Gore won the 2000 election in spite of the overwhelming evidence that debunks all of these things.
So Joe, you believe in the "magic bullet" theory instead? Now THAT theory is connected to reality. And some people believe that Al Gore won the 2000 election? Why yes, people do because there is factual evidence that he did win Florida (if the Bush's had not sued their way to winning the presidency) and verily, Gore won the national popular vote.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._presidential_election,_2000#Media_post-electoral_studies.2Frecounts
As Greenwald pointed out, unfounded theories v. poor official investigation or lawsuit conclusions with ignored evidence does not equal the same thing. I think you must be susceptible to propoganda yourself.
I heard The Young Turks (radio show) take a Newsweek writer to task about this poll and how the media has failed to just provide the public with blasting headlines saying "No connection between Saddam and 9/11". The writer was very defensive, saying Newsweek had on numerous occasions written about this in their articles. It was rather ridiculous that the media feels that if they buried it within their small font, heavy articles, then they have done their job. There is a big difference between being in column 4, paragraph 10 and being a headline.

Photo ID's are redundant
[Read the article: You have no right to vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What the GOP fear-mongering fails to recognize is that in order to register to vote, you have to provide ID and proof of address anyway. So if you're registered, you've passed the litmus test of the "wrong-kind" of voters.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. By caving to the GOP with a "what's the big deal about ID's?", you allow them to validate the fear AND they waste our valuable tax dollar money without addressing the real problems with voting.
How much time and money is being spent on sending this message, writing this law and enforcing it? I feel like allowing the GOP to continue down this path during times with tinder-box current events and the middle class being squeezed is like propelling gay marriage to the top of the policy priorities.

I forwarded this piece
[Read the article: Battling Democrats' indifference]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]to the following:
Senators:
Reid, Durbin, Clinton, Feingold, Obama, Kerry and Boxer
Reps:
Can't email them if you aren't a constituent, have to call them. I wanted to send this to Nancy Pelosi and Hoyer (the whip).
Democratic Offices:
DNC, DSCC and DCCC
Before reading this, I had called Reid, Durbin and my senators offices asking them to stand up against this Torture compromise and to pre-empt the GOP framing them as weak on terror. I hope they heard it.
Excellent piece.

No comparison to Iraq
[Read the article: Who wanted to "cut and run" from Somalia?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Not only is there revisionist history going on by conservatives, but then there are people like Joe, who are lazy in their assessment on comparing military strikes to eachother.
Iraq was a full-scale, pre-emptive war with campaigns like 'Shock and Awe'. It was not supported by the UN, it was based on manipulated intelligence, the president lied about it being part of the War on Terror, we have killed over 100,000 innocent civilians and lost over 2500 soliders, we've spent hundreds of billions of dollars and finally, after the mission was "accomplished" in '03, we have been there for over 3 years.
Somalia was supported by the UN and largely a humanitarian strike. We were there for 6 months and the GOP spent the entire time obstructing and whining about Clinton's military strikes. For Dubya, he has recieved only support for 3 years.
There is no comparison to the whining and complaining by the GOP to the Democrats right now. Because Dems are not whining, they have incontrovertible fact and evidence that Iraq is and was a complete display of incompetance based on lies.

Um
[Read the article: Who wanted to "cut and run" from Somalia?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]and I'm wondering, when did Colin Powell's credibility get repaired? "you don't cut and run..." advice could very well be in the same bowl of dung he advised the UN with.
