[Read more letters about this article: Here]I drive through Taylor every day and used to pass a billboard on the side of the road advertising jobs for the T. Don Hutto Correctional Facility. The face of the "happy employee" looked a little like Malcom McDowell from "A Clockwork Orange." Then, for a little while, the exact same billboard advertisement was there, except that the word "Correctional" had been changed to "Residential." At the time, I did not know what this meant because the facility looked exactly the same as it always had -- concertina wire around the tops of fences, abandoned outdoor rec areas, floodlights, etc. Then, I found out what it meant. Shortly thereafter the Austin media began covering the facility, and the concertina wire came down and an empty swingset appeared in the abandoned rec area closest the road. Now that the national media is paying some attention (and the UN -- won't the issue get *more* international attention if they refuse to let anyone take a look around inside??? If refusing a tour is less politically damaging than granting one, then what the heck are they hiding in there???), perhaps these little cosmetic changes will not be enough. Thank you very much for covering this important issue.
