  • What would it take?

[Read the article: The latest revelations of lawbreaking, torture and extremism ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So frustrating. One gets the impression that Bush could be caught on videotape strangling and eating babies, and still - no consequences.

Really, what *would* it take, what has to happen, for the country to be shocked into action?

    Any ideas?

  • Steve Boylan

[Read the article: Jonah Goldberg's deeply "conflicted" thoughts on war and torture]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Forgive me for changing the subject, but what is happening with the Col. Steve Boylan fiasco? Just curious.

  • But... he *is* crazy!

[Read the article: The Giuliani moderation fallacy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Finally! For months now I've been following the (endless) pre-primary season, and Giuliani is consistently labeled a "frontrunner". And each time I see or hear someone talking seriously about his becoming the nominee, all I can do is shake my head and soundlessly mouth 'But he's a looney-tunes! Don't they *see* that?'.

    Thanks, Glenn.

  • Is that it?

[Read the article: Tom Friedman and Rudy Giuliani on 9/11]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Huh. Normally I wouldn't complain, but was the entire post? It seemed like you were going somewhere and then it ended. I would have thought it was canon by now that Rudy Giuliani is a verb plus a noun plus 911.

Glenn, you are awesome and I love your writing beyond all description, but... Yikes.

  • I think I'm in love

[Read the article: National Review reporter caught fabricating; where is the "liberal media"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Sorry but I couldn't help smiling the whole time I was reading. Not because of the subject matter, but because I couldn't help but think that you (with an assist from the blogosphere) are going to take down every dishonest, corrupt, lying, pseudo-journalist on the Right. Eventually

Good for you. Because that's exactly how it's done, one day and one post at a time. God bless the internet.

  • NYT Editorial

[Read the article: The role of political reporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Taken from today's lead editorial: "Then came the four Democrats: the woman, the African-American, the Hispanic American, the coiffed Southern lawyer. They seemed younger, livelier and clearly to be living in 21st-century America."

Coiffed Southern Lawyer? They just can't let go of his poofy hair can they? And don't get me started on Bill Kristol.

  • Speaking as a Canadian:

[Read the article: The Noxious Fruits of Hate Speech laws]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I may be obsessed with American politics, but I'm a Canadian, living in Canada. I love Canada and I never want to live anywhere else, ever. And the reason I love Canada beyond all reason? IT'S SO BORING! Seriously, the stereotypes are true. We are a polite reasonable, affable collection of diverse people. We know how to get along with each other (generally), and with other countries. Glenn, you can raise the alarm about some investigation in Alberta, but in the end reason and good sense will out. Up here, it always does. We are in no danger of becoming like our fascinating neighbor to the south, I promise.

"I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't be so dismissive of the injustice here if it was you who were being hauled before the Government due to comments you made on this blog, forced to hire a lawyer, and faced the prospect of government fines and other punsihments for what you wrote."

What you call "injustice", I call a minor blip. The purpose of the investigations is not to limit free speech, or prosecute thought crimes, it's a salve to soothe Muslims. Because Canadians don't like to offend.

I can see why an American might be jaded enough to think that video is the first step on a slippery slope to tyranny, but it could never happen here. Never.

  • John Roberts....

[Read the article: CNN's John Roberts helps out Mike McConnell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

is a Canadian. He used to be a reporter for "The New Music" a long time ago, and he was pretty good, too. I remember seeing him at a mall in Toronto, doing a CITY-TV promotion, when I was a little girl. He was also a VJ on MuchMusic for a while.

Apparently, he lost his soul some time ago. Shame.

  • One Word Summation

[Read the article: The fun and excitement of civilization wars (fought from afar)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Narcissism. Isn't what this all amounts to? The idea that they are serious and brave and courageous, and everyone else is very sadly mistaken.

  • John McCain

[Read the article: McCain: Threatening to bomb sovereign countries is "naive"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And he cheats on his wife!

  • Bit Stupid of You

[Read the article: Reexamining the Ferraro fracas]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As Keith O. pointed out, the comments plus the implied agreement with them by Clinton, plus her denigration of the results from more than half of the states that have voted, plus her proposed coup by superdelegates = GRASPING.

I like Hilary, I wish she wasn't so desperate to sink to any level to win.

  • Let Him Veto

[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's a win/win. If he doesn't veto, the bill becomes law (insert signing statement here), and if he does, than the GOP will be in an untenable position of their own making.

I can't wait to see George try to explain that oversight and investigations could kill you.

  • Why is this news?

[Read the article: Clinton, Obama talk peace]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Breaking News!!!1!

Obama and Clinton today revealed themselves to be adults who can have a three minute conversation without losing their shit! Wow.

Hey, isn't there something going on with FISA today? I thought maybe I heard something, but *this* is way more interesting.

    Is Tim gone forever, then?

  • Great post as usual

[Read the article: Time magazine invents facts to claim that Americans support Bush's domestic spying abuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'll confess though, I was hoping to see Joe Klein get torn a new one for his self-congratulatory post on the *two* paragraphs he wrote five years ago that weren't terrible.

What a disgrace Time mag is.

  • "And nothing will change..."

[Read the article: Barack Obama delivers make-or-break speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

For whom does this lack of change benefit? Perhaps the GOP?

I started out as an Edwards supporter, but Obama is really winning me over with his oratory.

  • OMG

[Read the article: On Wright, Bill Kristol's wrong again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"If a white minister had said the things that Wright had said, that 9/11 was chickens coming home to roost, that Israel is a dirty word, that the U.S. government launched the AIDS virus on the country, wouldn't we be pretty appalled or at least raise questions about a white candidate who had made that minister one of his closest advisors and confidants over the last 15 or 20 years?"

Somebody get Kristol a mash up of Hagee, for God's sake!
