been to Iraq Glenn. You haven't.
-- tiberius
So has Pat Tillman. Tiberius. Let's ask him.

The truth is, that men are tired of liberty
[Read the article: The truth behind the Pollack-O'Hanlon trip to Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Rudy Giuliani
Yup, you read it right, and he elaborates. For the logic alone. it's worth a read.

This is an actual fear that they have --
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"-- not a theoretical fear but one that is pressing, urgent, at the forefront of their worldview"
GG
I don't believe that, and I hope you don't either. The Muslim Triumph is just a fear based minipulation they use.
You won't find a one of them who has significantly changed anything about their lives in order to lessen the danger.
Not if it would be inconvenient.
The-Muslims-are-coming also serves as a mantra, which they chant in order to reach the nirvana of fear they crave.
They fear the Muslims in the same way the fear Dracula, Frankenstein and Hannibal Lector.
Plus, you can imagine the Muslims killin all your enemies, how fun is that. I gues the Muslims will love them, you know, I bet they would love those guys. Ftom what I've heard they think very much alike.

Western intellectuals and friends can help the Muslim world
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Western intellectuals and friends can help the Muslim world in its spiritual and cultural maturity by supporting the constructive elements in Islam.
Well, looky here, we got us an authentic Muslim Orientalist. It's a type you don't see too often, I hope.
Anyway, I'm glad you think the West has the "spiritual and cultural maturity" to help you out. That's so nice.
But seriously, if I were you, I'd look elsewhere.

Scratch a...
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In my view, the Netherlands and other countries need to be more stringent in expecting all immigrants, including Muslims, to assimilate to Enlightenment political values.
Mona
Let me guess. You're a "libertarian", right?
-
God has chosen this moment...
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...in time as a pivotal battle against good and evil. I personally feel no greater goal than to fight and die for this great cause. All REAL americans should feel the same.

What's stopping you? 1-800-GO-ARMY I'm sure Salon will be glad to post your comments from Bahgdad.

That's My Little Libertarian!
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]. "A nation cannot hang together without common civic values, and if a significant contingent of an immigration influx is overtly hostile to said values,"
Mona
Ah, so Libertarians first have us determine what the "common civic values" should be, and of course this would have to be codified by the government for enforcement, and then examine immigrants to see who is "overtly hostile to said values"
I thought I had a correct understanding of Libertarian values.

Good for You
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Personally I think no faith based courts should have the force of law behind them,
I don't think they did. They were voluntary, and limited to certain matters. Could they even fine people, let alone imprison?

I invoke the hoke!
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Do me a favor, please, and stop invoking me or agreeing with anything I say.
Mona
When the only real difference between you and the trolls is the politesse with which you express yourself, of course he will invoke what he (or she) considers supporting points.
Just saying "I'm a libertarian" doesn't make you one. Looking at what you say, you just pee your pants in a more polite way.
Tabulating and enforcing cultural values, or if you will "civic values", is Libertarian?
And the courage with which you propose to meet the threat is stunning!
I thought Libertarians were Republicans who smoke pot. Now I see that Libertarians are Republicans who go nuts and invoke state action, right down to the cultural values, when they see a Muslim.
That makes things easy- one less ism to keep track of. Just lump 'em in with the Repubs,

I'm wrong again!
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And I'm sorry Mona. You are not a bigot, and some of your best friends are Muslim.
Now it's real easy- Libertarianism is the political philosophy which combines the worst aspects of both liberalism and conservatism. Well, you got all the bases covered, anyway.

In the manner of women everywhere...
[Read the article: The Islamists are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Mona didn't do her homework, got called on it, was embarrassed, and in the manner of women everywhere, will never let it go.

"The Big Stick"
[Read the article: Enforcing the community's foreign policy orthodoxy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We talked softly and got hit with 9/11. So we've had to use the big stick.
Tiberius
You are so right Tiberious. When all the "terrorist chatter" was clattering around, we should have used the big stick- to bar the cockpit doors in airliners. Would have been even better if we used a thick sheet of plywood to reinfoce them.
I would have a harder time getting on the bridge of a Wa. State Ferry than those hijackers did gaining entry to the controls.
Would be nice if they used some bigger sticks building the WTC. They weren't supposed to fall down.
BTW, Tiberious, why aren't you wielding that stick, personal like.
Walking softly, like in Beiruit? But you don't know what happened there, do you.
