@adnoto

When you get tired, you get cranky. Happens to everyone. But I'm sure you'll be cheerful and much more optimistic after a good night's sleep. Take two 100mg. Seconal tablets and call me in the morning. (The red ones, they say F100 on the side)

Bye now

Unlimber your imaginer and let fly!

so what did anyone expect?

You'd have to ask Digby about that.

Saturday, March 29, 2008 10:31 AM

Ouch!

So digby shot you down in flames and you drag your shit over here? Let it go.

-- Scientician

Good advice! It's gone. Maybe I just had to fire off a last crack.

@Good Celery

Derbig Mooser, besides following this comment thread avidly, and relishing the views of posters more informed than he, is going stark fucking crazy! March comes in like a Lamb here, leading to frantic motorcycle repairs, greasing of leathers (and letting out waistbands) buying of tires (ouch) and changing of oil. Then, it goes out like a rather grouchy lion, with constant freezing rain and snow, which can continue well into April without a dry, let alone a warm day. It's a season fit for strategems and spoils, it's a regular winter of discontent in the spring.

Domestic violence, unfortunately, rises precipitously during this period. Using a length of poly twine I secreted during the winter, I have secured several large couch-cushions to myself. I have found this will ward off all but the most viscious blows. You can't be too careful.

Let's not go OT.

Oh, dear poor former Ms. Mooser.

Okay, now this is getting scary! I don't know who you knew about the guppies, and I don't care. But this is quite different.

Look, let's not let this thread go off, lots of informed views here, and I have to go, go to work. I never laid a hand on that woman. I'm at work. I can't post anymore, bye. Have a nice day.

Worship

THIS is offensive soldier worship.

Actually, I'm sort of a sucker for a guy in uniform myself. Mostly sailors. My Dad was a sailor, USS Nassau out of San Diego in WW2. No, I don't mind a little soldier-worship, myself. Sacrifice, dedication to duty, being a credit to your service in appearance and behavior, all good things. If we don't worship them, they sure deserve our respect. Their lives can be very hard, and they deserve our tolerance, too.

But what I see happening is that contractors etc. anybody in the "security industry" are trying to hi-jack this respect for themselves! And they want all the benefits of it, without having to make the same sacrifices. Acting quasi-military is not the same thing as serving.

Those who are closer to the military can tell me if I am noticing something significant or not.

John "Wet Start" McCain?

Just want to make sure. It's John "Wet Start" McCain, we are talking about, right? The Navy Flyer who was a devotee of the "Wet Start" technique?

Elphant Orbit Man-Boy, John McCain's "Wet Start" technique could have won the Vietnam War for us, right?

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 02:42 PM

@LWM

When President John McCain brings back the "Wet Start" technique for use on American carriers in the Gulf of, Gulf of, okay... Ah! Persian Gulf!

Yup, John McCain's "Wet Start" is gonna chase them Ayrabs away!

Original article: John Yoo's war crimes

Yoo 'n Obama

Where does the culpability stop?

bamage

Well, I must assume, given what RMP and Jkalos have told me, that all the Officers who do not agree with Yoo's memo, and the detainee and terrorist suspect policy which springs from it, have resigned already. If they haven't, that would be dishonorable, and they would never do that. So, the Officers serving now must agree with the policy, and serve it gladly. No doubt they think it is necessary.

So, is the new administration gonna bring out a new memo? And if they do, what will the Officers who think the present course id correct, do? How can they possibly handle prisoners, if they can't do what is necessary?

Nobody really wants to face up to the fact that so much of what we are doing, if not the war itself is illegal by our own laws. Everybody thinks, hopes, that clinton or Obam can "fix" it.

Oh BTW, the ones who actually carried out the policy of torture, Army guys or contractors? Do we prosecute them? Do we just bring 'em home and turn 'em loose in the States?

Ms. Clinton's...

name was not capitalised by mistake. Should be "Clinton".

Original article: John Yoo's war crimes

It's so simple!

All Clinton, or Obama, has to do is, as Commander in Chief, simply write an order that the War On Iraq will, from now on, be conducted according to the doctrines which were in force before Bush came to power. The ordinary Geneva Convention-respecting doctrines we have used for a long time, the ones which, I might add, got us through the Cold War.

Petreaus and the rest will want to stop the War On Iraq so quickly, it'll make your head spin.

Or do Obama and/or Clinton want to join with Bush in their policies? I didn't say "stop the war". Just fight it the way we used to.

Watch how fast it comes to a halt! The Officers, all of whom I would assume support the present policy, will say "We can't do it!"

@ Good Celery

Don't worry, I shan't detain you long. (We work off the pre-Yoo memo here at Moosehall) It's the first completely clear day of the year, and it's getting warmer and warmer. As soon as I can feel the sun through my jacket I'm gone! Vrooom-vrooom! (Cue music minus one- Steppenwolf)
