@Johnathan in Tel Aviv

Johnathan, there are anti-Semites everywhere. You know that, bebuleah. They are the kind of people who won't give Israel any credit for anything, the chazzers.

He really should have acknowledged Israel's preeminence in the torture feild. In many ways, they lead the world. For instance, the per-Palestrinian cost of collective punishment in the Occupied territories is among the lowest in the world. And who among us can resist a bargain?

News Flash! Hunger Strike by Prominent Commenter

In other news, a prominent web commenter, Chris (Old Outflank 'Em) Sinnard, has announced that he will be, in solidarity with much of the world, and emulation of his absolutist martyr ideal, foregoing any nourishment for the foreseeable future. "I intend to live on the lies, timidity and ad hominems of my detractors. The ad hominems aren't bad if you fry them with okra" He estimates he will gain 10-15 lbs. during the ordeal.

This time, Barack, we'll get it right! Just for you, boss!

What does Obama have to gain by covering up an event under the guise and rule of George Bush?

I just don't get it

Cause if Obama covers for the military (and their pals) they will accomplish for him all the things they never could do for George Bush, even tho they worshipped Bush and are very ambivalent about Obama. Just watch, they will eliminate collateral damage, learn how to socially and civicly transform societies by military means, with no abrogation of rights, eliminate suicides and menatl damage to enlisted men, get rid of all financial improprieties, eliminate the abuse of women, everything but let gays serve openly. We can't compromise national security, you know.

Which is to say, I don't get it either. Frankly, I just think Obama rolls over for anything festooned with battle-bars or something.

"Does some consultant get paid to dream up names like this and like "Healthy Forests Restoration Act" and "Clear Skies Initiative"?

You will have to talk to that Frank Luntz guy about that.

Obama Origami

Obama just falls apart when it's anything to do with the military or intelligence. Just rolls over and plays dead.

Had Obama any experience in dealing with the military before this? He seems to swallow whole anything they give him.

And they are going to screw him blind. They will fill him full of shit, fail, fail, fail, as they have for eight years, and then blame Obama.

I can't wait for them, the military (and all their pals) after some huge fuck-up, to say "We were all ready to pull out when Obama was elected, but he made us keep fighting!

The Old Starve-with-dignity Aproach

I also read another fellow who, I think, also tries to help feed the hungry say that there’s this tendency to view a helper to helpee relationship in a kind of hierarchical structure, with one having the power and responsibility, and the other having the obligation and the guilt and sometimes it goes vice versa. This screws things up, and gets in the way

Well, so much for afirmative action, huh? Tell me again why it's so important to help all those people attacked by the US military, heru-ur. Let the bastards help themselves. They'll be the better for it.

Hello, Mr. Rosen? This is Ann Nonniemouse

"Chait claims that what Rosen did was "reporting," not mere gossip, because Rosen "spoke first-hand with several of Sotomayor's former clerks, who provided a mixed picture."

Like the troll poster told us: "They weren't anonymous to him!" (Rosen)

A Whiter Shade of Fail

What is completely baffling to me, is that for almost all Americans, the only thing they are asked to sacrifice towards the civil rights struggle is a bit of good-will. And in many cases, they can't even do that.

"I've addressed this issue with others, but since I have no idea when you posted..."

Time and date is at the bottom of every post. In bold.

@Omooex

There were, from the very moment Title VII was passed, many people who were willing to devote a dismaying amount of effort to make sure it was misunderstood, misapplied and a source of rhetorical captle for bigots. As I remember it, Title VII was the start of the "oppressed white man schtick".

You can always tell those people. They're the ones who alwayd feel like they are starving if they see anyone else get something to eat. And most of the time, obesity is their biggest problem.

@Macgupta

Thanks for all the posts and links about the New Haven firefighters. When the entire brou-ha-ha (if this meets the technical definition of a brou-ha-ha) over the Ricci case started, several commenters from Conn. mentioned that when we looked into the New Haven firefighters, we would find a mess.

@explorer

.feel free to share something which does in fact support your opinion that affirmative action has run its course...

Cause you sure as hell didn't do that inyour comment. You offered some observations which don't even rise to the level of the anecdotal, frankly.

Amazing how much affirmative action scares people. It's a good indicator on their feelings of self-worth.

Just imagine!

The KKK’s violence and intimidation reached their peak in the months leading to the November 1868 general election. The Klan used violence to try to disrupt voter registration and intimidate prospective Republican voters. In the three months before the election, the governor’s office received reports of more than 200 murders

Shall I go on into the twenties, thirties and even closer to today?

Friday, May 29, 2009 03:35 PM

There's no need to imagine it

I Googled Ku Klux Klan Election Threats. Seems the Klan is always more active during elections.

Friday, May 29, 2009 03:32 PM

Why do we need to imagine it?

"Imagine if Ku Klux Klan members had stood menacingly in military uniforms, with nightsticks, in front of a polling place. Add to it that they had hurled racial threats and insults at voters who tried to enter."

They haven't? That would surprise me. Gee, I wonder what would happen if I Googled "Ku Klux Klan Election Threats"?
