[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]LWM, the War on Iraq will end the day Obama is elected, and the last troops will be leaving by his inauguration. Obama won't have to say anything, in fact, I don't think they will stay if he begs them!
Ask yourself one thing: Would you waterboard for Obama? That is, would you perform the myraid of war and other crimes which go to make up our foreign policy, depending on Obama to protect you from the criminal responsibility for your actions? I doubt it.
Without Bush in charge, or someone else, (possibly Hillary) whom the troops (define that how you want) can count on to protect them from accountability, the entire effort falls apart. Without the criminality, there's no reason to be there.
Obama couldn't keep the war going if he wanted to.

@ RMP
[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well, if you find my sudden romantic abandonment, combined with personal injury, the destruction of a classic British motorcycle, and the pneumonia I contracted from standing on a SanFrancisco street in my underwear humorous, well, all I can say is... well, I guess I can't say anything, can I? Ha! And I spelled p-n-e-u-m-o-n-i-a right the first time!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Never found any use for them. I have no patience for the local posers and wannabes with their cafe racers lined up outside the local watering holes every weekend."
LWM
Mr. M, (or may I call you "LW"?) that's no way to talk. I'm sure if you got to know me, you could learn to somewhat tolerate me.
Besides, what other activity gives a straight guy a good excuse to dress in head-to-toe black leather? "But Mom, this is what all the bikers wear!" always won the arguement at my house. And yes, there is such a thing as "racing pajamas". Some of those dreams go by pretty fast, and I'm gonna stay safe!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you're reading this, yes, I'm still sorry about the carpet on the stairs, and no, I wasn't too badly hurt. I still think about you quite a lot, so e-mail me and well renew our...
Oh, who the hell am I kidding? You never gave a shit about politics, unless it was connected to sex. You'd sooner read the ,i>Koran than Salon. And you cared even less about me.
But if your girlfriend still has those pants, I want them back!

@Buckyl
[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]He claims that if John Q. Public started beating Henry Smith with a bat in the local Public that the police would not give that act of initiating force weight when they were called after Henry Smith shot and killed John and thereby saved his own life
Oh they sure would bucky, my boy. They would very well take into account whether Henry smith could have "saved his life" without escalating the conflict to gunplay. If he was in a position to shoot and kill a man, how was he in danger of losing his life.
Bucky, try not to love guns more than people. It's really easy to do if you watch a lot of TV and movies. We often grow to love those familiar, lovable characters from films and TV, but they are not real. A guy doesn't expiate himself because he pulls a gun a kills someone, thereby being the one left to tell the story. That's a privilege extended only in movies, TV, and the South.

[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It sounds like your life would make a good movie.
The actual physical injury wasn't enough for you, so my total and complete public humiliation is the only thing which will satisfy? Man, you might be "military" and you might be "patriotic", but you haven't really retired, have you?

There are almost zero "cafe racers" around any more..

[Read more letters about this article: Here]What? You mean I'm doing all this posing for nothing?
First I get dumped by Mary, than her distaff fiance' dumps me down the stairs, and now this. It's not fair!

Baseball bat to the head...
[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]may very well be the reason why folks are so confused between defending themselves and escalating a conflict and committing manslaughter.
Me, I'd like to meet the guy who can shoot straight after getting a baseball bat to the head.
I'll say it again: be careful you don't start loving guns more than people. It's very easy to do. You start out by repeating the stupidest canard in the discourse: "Guns don't kill people, people kill people!" Once you've swallowed that particular bit of bullshit, the rest is easy. And since guns are commonly portrayed as better than people (after all, they don't kill people) in the media, there seems to be some sense to it.

And if you can..
[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]spare a thought for that question: Would you waterboard for Obama? Who will?
I'm hoping, not many will. It may be the only thing which can save us.

@ Baldie McEagle
[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm glad you brought those scenarios up. That kind of stuff happens to me all the time.
Gosh, Baldie, did you ever think of going into adventure-thriller movie writing? You really should, and your stuff is so original. And of course, your instinctive grasp of the fact that flight is worse than death speaks very well for you as a man of honor.
But let me tell you about an actual self defense situation which has happened to me. My ex-wife came at me, armed to the teeth, with matrimonialcide in mind. There was no doubt, she intended to leave me with busted assets, she had been messin' around, messin' around town with another man. So I gave her the gun, I shot her! After the guitar break, I headed for Mexico, down south where I can be free!
