I have a social work background so I know as much.
And I remind yout that Napolean knew the horrors of war as well, and also the wonders. Don't forget that war has brought McCain honor--the greatest honor that he has ever known.
If you think McCain won't be cozying up and searching for more troops from Europe as well, well. ? Maybe McCain is easier for the Europeans to turn down unlike the goodlooking Obama...so maybe you have your self-interest served there. But as for Obama wanting to wage more wars, I've heard this theory, but a couple of points.
1. At least Obama speaks about taking soldiers from Iraq and putting them into Afghanistan. He is not conjuring up soldiers as it were, as McCain says he will consider leaving Iraq only after his first term (not a timetable mind you!) And sending more troops to Afghanistan. And beginning ops in Iran--if they are not already secretly begun. If there's a war to be had in Pakistan, I believe he will be first to sign on. Why not when you have no idea or worry about where they come from.
2. Obama and his wife do not have over $100,000 in credit card debt as McCain and wife do. Those who can carry balances of this amount do not think 12 billion per month is too much perhaps in Iraq but more ordinary taxpayers do think its too much. Greater empires have been brought down with wars and taxes...(Bush in his great wisdom borrowed all the money for our wars in his term...now he is dancing on the graves of his competitors saying "they're going to raise your taxes..." his debt will be left to others, just as his daddy's friends paid his debt for his other failed oil ventures...history repeats itself...)
I know you think you have Obama's type nailed flat (and what's with the grievance over visiting Africa and taking cameras? McCain has reporters visiting for backyard barbeques which are maybe more cozy family gatherings than quonset huts...cozier for the reporters at least...), but it's odd you can't see McCain's failed type. At least Obama has wisdom, unusual intelligence, and physical strength in his favor--Sentor McCain is relying on his looks and his rich friends--certainly not his ideas to help him win.
Funny that today McCain's "sorry" for all the negavity in his campaign lately...sorry all the way to the bank and back again no doubt....!
a friend of mine works as a recruiter for the U.S. reserve troops we're sending to Iraq. He's trying very hard to retire right now because the same arguments that he used to use to get people to sign up (scholarships, college, "see the world") just don't cut it anymore. They are struggling not only to get enough people to go--but to get them to stay once they're in. Some people choose the military as a career--but not enough people to support the sustained action we've had for the past 8 years. A draft probably wouldn't be tolerated--but what else they will do I don't know.
John McCain is an extraordinarily rich man unused to counting pennies or looking at the price of things. He is unaware of the strain. War fatigue. For McCain, because of his beliefs about "honor" and "victory" in the middle east and elsewhere--enough will never be enough. He has stated that we shouldn't have given up so easily in Vietnam. That--shows his lack of perspective on international conflicts and their cost.
