Demanding marraige in a hick State like Califormnia? Please. It's typical self defeating bulls--t.
The public are against gay marraige but support domestic partnership. So of course the community picked another fight they couldn't win. The queer community carry a ton of baggage, and their stratgy is set by the victim complex crowd, not to mention the self righteous set who live for pointing out how unfair everyone is. They're also hopelessly naive and confuse politicians with saints. A smooth operator like Obama is not going to waste capital on people who don't notice the most obvious political realities.
So now, instead of a quick and easy victory on domestic partnership, they can get all frothy over how terrible Obama is, and waste a few more years.
newsweek and msnbc.
And though Lind is right that McCain would be worse, it doesn't excuse Obama from reversing on his campaign promises to give us fiscally responsible reform and financial regulation. What he's done so far on the economy is frightening.
I don't need to be ruled by fanatics of any stripe, either fundamentalists or technocrats using 'facts' to justify their cruelty. And democracy itself can be horrible when the public are heartless and ignorant rubes.
The article looks suspiciously like part for commercial media's push to drive a wedge between liberal christians and secularists. I thought they had hired Sam Harris for that. He must not be doing the job, so they're subcontracting out the work.
governments that have granted freedom to their peoples. Indeed, I think the Moors in Spain were particularly enlightened. Anyway, Iranians today are probably not fighting for secular government. So Lind is either barking up the wrong tree, or encouraging American secularists to feel superior, or both.
and I thought Borat was hillarious. But Bruno looks insulting. SBC isn't convincing as a queer. From the commercials, it doesn't seem to have jack to do with gay life or culture. It looks like the same character in Borat. It worked before because Borat was from an unknown backwater. Bruno represents gay men as vulgar, heartless, and ignorant. We are really vulgar, kind, and somewhat educated.
butts and demand single payer. And don't expect victory over night. Even with all-out mobilization, it'll be an excrutiating battle.
But as usual, nobody will lift a finger, as when Obama gave us a Keynesian hog fest of a stimulus instead of the fiscally responsible Clintonomics he had promised, and liberals didn't even notice.
I never blame politicians for anything anymore. The problem is the lazy, self obsessed public. And Lind helps them avoid real work by providing this in-depth romp through every irrellevant detail of the plans to save the private system. Please.
That's this Apatow person. Please. I could do better with my nipples tied behind my back.
that Obama promised neoliberalism in the campaign and hasn't delivered. Instead of targeted tax cuts and fiscal responsibility, he put through a keynesian hog fest that's given the right a ton of political capital just when we need it most. He hasn't regulated the banks to encourage new industry and employment. He can't deliver on health care because the liberal rank and file are sitting on their lazy butts. This is a moment of opportunity, and we should all be in the streets demanding single payer. But the rank and file don't bother with policy. They barely noticed the Clintons' successes. And they certainly aren't going to lift a finger to get us out of this mess.
Meanwhile, 'liberal' pundits will always confuse the issues with bulls--t.
of handsome men and women with boob jobs robot lurching across the screen. Please. I could do better with a coat rack, and two hats.
in charge of news, film, and tv are so ignorant. It's brutal. But I think it's because the commercial interests that own it all need an ignorant public to buy the junk.
To name a few more, I'd say Buck Darma, Johnny Winter, Dick Wagner, Steve Hunter, and of course, Carlos. I think it was after Song of the Wind that the Stone called him one of the most beautiful players of the guitar ever. I agree. Oh, the sweet sweet tones.
so much else. But this issue has to be fought, again and again until we win.
I bless sweet Hillary's name for suffering a crushing defeat on behalf of public health. And though I'm disappointed with Obama for giving us a Keynesian blubber fest instead of fiscal responsibility, and thus ceding political capital to the repugs when we need all we can get, I will always give him credit for taking on this fight. I only hope the democratic base will get off their lazy butts and help.
One way is by trying to bring the fundys on board. They'd make strong allies, especially if they knew what scripture has to say on the issue. To wit:
I was sick and you took care of me. Matt 25:36.
It's done against minorities on a daily basis. The cops arrest black people and lie in their reports out of habit. They entrap and lie about gay men for fun.
Just telling lies about policy doesn't qualify. So another commercial pundit tries to speak to educated culture and falls flat.
The scripture that really applies here is Matt 25:36, I was sick and you took care of me. It's a demand that we install Universal healthcare immediately. And it should be shouted in the face of every fundamentalist. They'd make strong allies if they were confronted with biblical demands in a way they can't ignore. It's also the reason Europe has healthcare. Europeans internalized biblical values years ago, while American fundys have been running a massive con. Ignoring the basics of scripture is their specialty, so a confrontation would have to be very forcefull.
maybe I'll try and start one. We can't sit down this time.
to give themselves plausible deniability, that they're not a nonstop row of liars and con men. And ya'll are impressed by that. Please.
