still lower

Not quite accurate. You're free to commit felonies. You simply can't be indicted. uh oh.. Did I say indicted? I meant convicted.

Not pardoned seems to be the deciding factor

whose fault is it

while it may be true that the elections of 2000 and 2004 were stolen it does not absolve anyone for their part in this mess. Slightly more than half of all eligible voters could be bothered to turn out to vote in 2000 (51.3%) and with all the anger and activism after the that election was stolen a slightly larger number (55.3%) voted in 2004.

Keeping those numbers in mind you can see that w could get re-elected with a 30% approval rating if all those people who still like him were to come out and vote for him. 50% of 50% is 25%.

A Democratic party that represents the people of the United States would most likely garner a lot more votes than the current corporate owned one.

AQ uniforms

Perhaps the reason us common folks are unable to identify al qaeda fighters is that those fiends have the same tailor who makes fine clothing for the emperor. fortunately DoD has special equipment that can actually see those uniforms.

Original article: Various items

integrity = poor book sales

Mr Greenwald joins others like Noam Chomsky who pull back the curtain and let us see who is pulling the strings and how.

That is not allowed and the most effective tool corporate media has is to completely ignore him. If it isn't on teevee, it didn't happen.

now it becomes clear

I see from other commenters that Mr Scherer is a big Hillary fan. that certainly explains his vicious attacks on any of the candidates that actually have something to say. Of course, the assumption by corporate media of them being second string candidates probably makes them feel they (the candidates) have nothing to lose but still his treatment of Kucinich and Gravel is far beneath the standards here at the Salon.

if the Democrats want to lose the next presidential election, and there is actually a good case to be made for the merits of such an action, then by all means run Hillary. I will bet large amounts of money on that race and I know I will win because both the Dems and the Reps will make sure the fix is in.

Hillary supporters are either crossover Republicans like Joe Lieberman supporters or suckers.

you are preaching to the choir here

have you asked anyone from ADL or Simon Wisenthal Center why they are silent?

it would be interesting to hear their response.

@ Nick44

Do not confuse the Israel lobby with Jewish lobbies and organizations.

ya know, you could help me and maybe some others out with this. would you be able to list some prominent groups that are anti-war and/or are speaking out against this kind of thing?

From what I see, and that of course gets filtered through corporate media, does not exactly line up with what you state.

really, I am being sincere.

better off without the funding

from what I have seen so far of all this anti-terror legislation and funding which turns out to be more surveillance and fewer civil liberties, I think it may be a blessing in disguise.

In fact if the cities were to react in that manner you can be sure that funding would be quickly forced upon them.

I see this as direct action to stop the upcoming attack on Iran. More..faster

Original article: Telecom amnesty update

amnesty as shiny object

what do you think the chances are that while we are all studying the amendment or proposal to offer amnesty to the telecoms, the FISA act gets completely turned upside down and spying on all of us becomes the norm?

A bill is sent forward without specific language granting immunuity, it does allow spying as the white house wants, and gets a veto proof majority. the dems say they won, the republicans say they are bipartisan, the prez reluctantly signs it into law and we get the short end of the stick.

next step, statute of limitations is severely shortened to bring lawsuits against telecoms.

Original article: Which Democrat is a winner?

Kucinich?

I would like to voice my displeasure over the omission of Dennis Kucinich. He may not be Corporate Media's choice and may scare the crap out of the DC insiders but his views are held by a great majority of people. any one of those online quizzes will prove that.

not even his image is allowed at Salon now? my my

somebody has to be first

It'd be nice if we urbanites occasionally got a say in electing our representatives, don'cha think?

you are of course assuming that the people of Iowa have a say in electing our representatives, right?

I don't really think so, the powers that be are simply sounding out the candidates who have been chosen by the party leadership. all candidates have been carefully vetted by interest groups and then the final tweaks are done before beta testing is started.....that is Iowa. New Hampshire is another quaint exercise where everyone can believe democracy actually works but really means next to nothing. Super Tuesday is where it is all decided....and there are plenty of states with significant urban populations.

no one really gets to choose anything, the choices have already been made and you only get to pick the one on the left or the one on the right.

anyway, did not mean to ramble. it just burns my ass to hear some smartass degrade a group of people who have done nothing at all other than produce food for his big mouth.
