let's give her a good sendoff, shall we? :)

  • their arrogance throughout

...has been astounding. but, as GG points out, it's a good thing--it illuminates the central problem with corporate media SO well.

  • Creation Of Reality

[Read the article: The Chicago Tribune vs. Time magazine]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

forgive me if someone else has already asked, more eloquently, but…the central issue around the Klein/Time thing, to me, seems to be one of “Creation Of Reality” (as in the oft-quoted Suskind piece, “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality.”)

that is, with Time, something–a very important thing–that is demonstrably false is presented as Truth from a magazine that’s at least thought of as our culture’s modern Town Hall–someplace where “news” (here defined as factual) is discussed.

it seems, in this light, that a push back from this community would be key, one that basically–no, *actually* says, “we SEE what you’re doing, here. IT IS A LIE. now, let’s sit down and discuss this, please. actually, no, not “please”. SIT DOWN, NOW.”

sorry, but I really think “Creation Of Reality” needs to be among the biggest crimes ever. its ripple effects have been far too injurious to far too many.

    thoughts, please…? :)

  • oh, effing PLEASE, Horton...

...it was a piece of "bad writing" on Klein's part? no, my dear. LIES are not "bad writing", they are LIES. next?

  • go go Glennzilla! :)

[Read the article: Time magazine refused to publish responses to Klein's false smears]

go, Glenn! as I've said before, what you're really doing is pushing back against the Creation of Reality, which crime is unfortunately not limited to Karl Rove. the whole effing Village is complicit, and HAS to be held to account, or we're through...

…is anyone here aware of the story about Bhutto claiming in an interview with David Frost a few months ago that Bin Laden was murdered by Omar Sheikh? it’s a fairly amazing claim, and I suspect that it’s been addressed/dismissed elsewhere. if anybody here could give me the shortform explanation, I’d really appreciate it. thanks!

...Matt Miller, the "Center" of KCRW's "Left, Right And Center", got an audible Lil' Stiffie enthusing about Bloomy/Unity 08 on Friday. of the other hosts, Bob Scheer threw up a little in his mouth. Arianna was busy looking at one of Deepak Chopra's posts on HuffPo, and thinking about the gala New Year's Eve parties she'd been invited to. and I just kind of tune out Tony Blankley, so I really couldn't tell you what he said.

I'm not surprised. Olbermann's good, but there's the matter of a paycheck.

I'm tired, though, of the O'Reilly stuff, both from his own hideous face, and from Olbermann's nightly "feud" with him. O'Reilly's an ass who shouldn't be on radio OR television...if we ever make it through this alive, somehow we have to find a way of ensuring that. (I won't rest until every Fox News idiot is just a loudmouthed drunk at the local bar, like they usedta be in the good ol' days!)

  • this is what genuinely worries me...

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...simply regaining the White House, the Senate, and the House won't even *begin* to fix things. we have to separate the corporate from the media. and the corporate...? they have A LOT of resources. every cretin at every network/newspaper/radio station, for one thing. oh, and then, partial ownership of our own effing Democratic party.

    oy. oy oy oy.

...it was *obviously* a parable, just like Our Lord used to use when trying to explain the larger truths to his simpleton followers.

    ***

no matter how they lie, or cheat, or steal, we'll never be able to hang anything on this administration or the media who love them. comes a time, I think, where we might simply have to throw the whole lot away and start fresh.

  • my brief explanation has always been greed.

[Read the article: Cokie Roberts speaks out on the war on behalf of the American people]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...and I figured that there was probably no shortage of wingnut welfare financing the lies of Cokie ad nauseam.

but every so often, the possibility that these "people" might just be enjoying being evil, in the pursuit of elite-driven Amurkin Democracy or just for the hell of it, occurs to me.

I mean, really--how different from "let them eat cake" is shit like Cokie's? ("Cokie". jesus. how does one wind up calling oneself "Cokie", anyway?)

  • they're not just in it for the fun...

[Read the article: Megan McArdle and Dan Drezner's defense of the media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...there's a lot of job security/wingnut welfare that comes with complicity like this.

we let the media off the hook every time we say that they're in it for the fun, or that they're simply "not doing their jobs/lazy". they are, and have been for years, COMPLICIT. and that's how it should be presented at the International Criminal Court.
