...at this point how Clinton's supporters even continue to pretend, starry-eyed, that she's the more "electable" one of the Dems.

Even assuming that this was nothing more than an jaw-droppingly stupid gaffe -- which, in fact, I think is all it probably was -- the junior senator from New York has so clearly revealed herself as the love-child of Lady Macbeth and Machiavelli (after a stint at the Catherine de Medici Finishing School) that she'll be trounced in the general.

She's her own worst enemy, really; her ambition and sense of entitlement blinds her to the repulsiveness of behavior. (I mean, come on: comparing "what's happening in Florida" with the slaughters orchestrated by Mugabe in Zimbabwe? There are simply no words.)

The bright side is that if she does manage to steal the nomination, she'll almost certainly lose the election and destroy her career in the process, and perhaps we'll finally have a stake in the heart of the Clinton dynasty for good.

I can't possibly follow your double negatives and twisted logic there -- I'm an editor, not a miracle worker -- but, since it was evidently lost on you, I was actually giving Clinton the benefit of the doubt.

So let me try again.

I do not believe, contrary to what many others are asserting, that Clinton was wishing or signaling for Obama's assasination.

I do believe she's utterly tone deaf to how those remarks would come across (both in a broader historical context and within the more specific context of this campaign, especially with the added poignancy of Ted Kennedy's health), and that this tone-deafness stems from a pattern of grotesque behavior and remarks that are increasingly off-putting for many voters, even on the liberal side of the equation.

In other words, the problem is not that she wished for Obama's death (because she didn't). The problem is that she will say and do anything to win without the slightest awareness of how it actually comes across when you will say or do anything to win.

Still too subtle? Sorry, I just can't find a one-syllable word for "self-serving pathological narcissist." Let me be blunter: she's behaving like the Democratic version of George W. Bush. And it doesn't take an "Obamabot" to be repulsed by that.

No, the problem is you want people to pretend that making an academic argument including a 40 year old historical reference is outrageous when in fact it isn't.
